Hello, everybody! I'm new here. I've been lurking around the boards as a guest while I've been working on my very first AGS game, and now that I've got some substantial stuff to show I've finally registered. Brave new world, brave new world. Here's the project I'm working on

Fortunate Smith in ... Arigato, Dracula!
The unfortunately named Fortunate Smith, intrepid explorer/humanitarian/singer/songwriter/adventurer finds himself dragged into another adrenaline pumping adventure! Deep in a middle of nowhere, the small multicultural town of Massacreville lives in terror. They have no one to blame but themselves for staying in a town with a name like that. A mysterious Japanese vampire overlord with anti-collonial sentiments kills their children and Vietnamese corn-farmers (don't ask) with brutal malice. His evil knows no limits, and his darkness knows no bounds, and the words evil and darkness are no longer adequate to describe his evil and his darkness. Enter Fortunate Smith, who arrives in Massacreville for no apparent reason, and discovers himself to be the legendary, fabled, much-heralded Slayer of Japanese Vampires (TM).  Rejoice, ye, rejoice.

Features:

* A diverse cast of characters from various ethnicities! Mingle with Vietnamese farmers (they will even wear that cool hat), and be allured by the seductive vocals of Russian songstress the Divine Maria Molotov-Cocktail.
* Play as the charming Fortunate Smith, savior of mankind! He has a bad name, but he has a good heart.
* Never heard before approach in adventure games where you have to combine inventory items to solve puzzles! Really! I'm that innovative!
* An epic and moving story involving the age old battle between white men and japanese undead! This makes it one of the few AGS games involving the undead! I keep breaking boundaries!
* More than 10 beautiful locations! Hang out with the other alcoholics at the Kissy Suzuki Bar and Pub or chill with Count Arigato in his crypt of doom

Here are some screenshots:

New Screenshots

The sparkly shiny title screen.

Fortunate Smith tries to corrupt one of Massacreville's finest. The scandal! Also, this is the most homoerotic scene of the whole game.

Very interesting style.

And kudos for not posting until you had some stuff to show.

The plot sounds ... unique?

I really like the use of photo-backgrounds with sprite/pixellized characters.

I once thought I was a legendary, fabled, much-heralded Slayer of Japanese Vampires ... turns out I was a plumber.

Who knew?

Thank you! I'm glad you like the style. It evolved basically from my incapabilities at creating a proper looking background.  Ah, so necessity really is the mother of invention. Or something like that.

I really like the sound of your description. You have a good grasp on humour, so I'm sure it'll be a worthwhile game for me to get excited about ^_^ "Massacreville" .. ahh. I love it.

Thank you! Right now I'm in the process of finishing up the most of the graphics (I have about all the backgrounds and main characters done) and then I can get to work on the horrible burden of scripting. I assume that is where I'll go mad, but we'll see :)

Wow, putting a date above makes it look like what I have to say is really official and important. There are two new screenshots that I've edited into the original post above. One of the screenshots is Fortunate Smith engaging in a stimulating conversation with the very unique character, "Policeman". I don't think a character like him has ever been attempted in an adventure game before, so I think I'm a pioneer of sorts. Anyways, the sprite for "Policeman" took me ages to do, surprisingly, even though he's just a supporting character that doesn't really do much.

Right now I'm 100% done on the graphics for the first part of the game, and instead of carrying on and finishing the graphics for the whole game, which was my original plan, I decided I'm gonna focus on scripting the first part of the game before I move on to the second part. Is that a good idea? Let's hope so. My main reason was that I had this strange paranoia that if I spent all my time doing the graphics I would forget how to script certain parts of the game. Weird reason, I know but I never claimed to be conventional.
