So on Friday I'm going on a roadtrip with my friends up North.  We'll be heading to Montreal, spending 2 days there, then driving down to NYC where we'll be 3 days, then continue south.

My point is, it'd be swell if I could get a picture with the AGSers in the areas.  Rode will probably be easier to find, but I'll see if I can get us to stopover in Schenectady.

RSVP!

Your timing is miserable, Grundy.  I'm going to China today.

Oh well, hope you fellow Northeastern US AGSers have fun.

Grund! If you're going past Britain let me know!

I did the whole "road trip up north" thing a few years ago.  My little group and I went all over the New England area and we were even up in Montreal now that I think about it.  Do you want any suggestions for interesting places to stop when you're driving by or are you guys all set?

We're pretty much all set.  I think the only thing we're uncertain about is what to do in Montreal, but I'm sure we'll find something.

Yeah, I'm sure you'll find something to do in Montreal.  I don't remember what I did up there because Canada is kind of a blur in my memory, but there will always be something.
You're going through some very beautiful territory up there.  Hope you guys have fun.  And remember, have a great trip.  :)

Maybe this'll give you some ideas of what there is up there.  I don't know if you've seen it before but here it is if you want it.

Well, the timing isn't great.
I think I have SARS, or Meningitis or something.
Either way I haven't been hit with a disease this bad since the last time the herpes flared up.
I'll tell you what though, if I'm feeling any better tomorrow I'll check in here and we can work something out.
For the record anyhoo,

- McKibbins Irish Pub, 1426 Bishop St (This is where you'll find me and my friends 90% of the time. Nice atmosphere, decent cover bands once in a while (U2 and the like)).
- Hurleys Irish Pub, 1225 Crescent St (A similar atmosphere to McKibbins, slightly older crowd).
- Cheers, 1260 Mackay St (Younger crowd, dance music. An ex girlfriend of mine works there. A good place to go if you want to party and get smashed. Curious lack of Sam Malone.)

Those places are all within like, three blocks of each other downtown, right off the infamous St. Catherines street.
Unfortunately, if you're looking for more of a dance club atmosphere, you're talking to the wrong guy, because I ran away screaming from that scene many years ago. A good bet would be to try any of the million clubs on Crescent street.

If you're looking for some, shall we say, more adult oriented entertainment, I can only suggest one place, but it's not downtown.
Solid Gold - 8840 St-Laurent (Drinks are expensive, so be prepared to spend $$$. Stop looking at me like that. I'm a pig, big deal.)
Any of the millions of strip bars you see downtown will be dirty and scary. You have been warned.

As for daytime activities, well, a popular choice is the Biodome.

You can see animals and stuff. Not incredibly Montreal-esque, but hey. It's also right next to the Olympic Stadium, which is always cool to see.

You may want to check out the Old Port, in Old Montreal. It's, well, an old port. In the summer there's lots of cool stuff there. Winter not so much. In fact, you should really come down in summer when the city has risen from the dead of winter. Much more fun. The Jazz Festival is always a blast.

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more to do here. I've heard people say so.
