You mean Azrael? I always hated that stupid cat... compared to Claws cat Madcat, it was lame... :)

I disagree... You americans (Are you american Os, or I am pissing it off?  ???) tend to think of the smurfs as a naive Hannah-Barbera stuff such as the Flinstons or Yogui Bear...

Well, the smurfs have been a production of Hannah Barbera, but they originally were a belgium comic strip (Three frames, if not just one, with no speeches), very funny, with some touch of English humour, not really naive.

We've all been witnesses of how originally "evil" characters become more sweet when it comes time to appear in TV (The Puppets, Garfield, Lupin III)... don't be confused with the smurfs.

Azrael was in the comics not only the "clown" character, pissing it off in ridiculous ways, but also a serious threat... In fact, Gargamel allways had to take the captured smurfs away from it because Azrael just wanted to kill our poor blue mates.

In its first appearance, the smurfs change some potions of place in one of Gargamel's shelves and he turns such small as the smurfs in spite of became a giant. In the last frame of the comic we see Gargamel (little) claiming that his vengeance was going to be terrible, but Azrael was behind with a evil smile, and the author suggests that the wizard was going to be killed by the cat soon after the end of the comic.

Evidently, Peyo (the author) realised that a villain was necessary, and he brought him back to life, but it's  a good example for not underestimate Azrael.

I'm an Aussie you Boatch! :o

Well, the thing about the original Belgium comic strip is that the Smurfs weren't originally the main characters. The main characters were those little kid ones that they introduced into the cartoon a few series into its run (you know, the annoying little bastard ones :)).

Although Azrael is supposed to be "deadly", I still get over the awful design of the character, and the way they had it act... in my opinion, Madcat is still better. :)

Yes, they appeared as guest stars in Johan and Peewit, but just in one chapter, and it eas not a mediocre appear, all the comic was directed to them...

And sorry about calling you american if you felt it offensive in some way... ;)
