This is my first character and it is the main character in my first game. Could use some critism.

The overall feel of the character is neat-o. It makes me conjur up images of Flash Gordon.

As for the technical execution of it, it's an impressive first character to make. There are a couple of anatomy issues if you are looking for some nit picking.

Namely, his arms seem a little short and look as though they cut in kind of abruptly in an unnatural curve. I can't be sure, but it looks like his hands might be in his pockets in which case they are fine as is.

His ankles are a bit thick, but he is a beefy guy and I think they are passable as part of the style of the character.

My two cents.

tnx for the critism, the arms are in the pockects of his short pant, as for the ankles, the whole characters is a bit thick.

There are only a few pixels to work with and that's why it gets tricky.  But this can also help you because if you just keep trying moving some/adding some pixels you'll get the hang of how little pixels can change the look of the whole image.

The more you practice the better you'll get!

My $0.02 ...

The red of the shirt isn't too bad, though I would mute the color a little.  The bright blue on the shirt is a bit of an eye sore.  I would try not to use the full bright blue and tone it down a bit as well.

The arms look like maybe they could do with a few pixels being pulled out from the inside/elbow area if you see what I mean?  (I'm not at home, so I can't make an edit :()

For a first character attempt this is darn good!  You'll only get better and better with time and practice!

Keep it up!

I made some improvements on the drawning, but i`m not sure if the curve of the arm good is now. (i made the shirt red and blue some darker).

I, for one, like it alot now. It was good before, but the changes to the arms look much more natural.

I hope you don't mind, but I had an idea for an edit to show you:

Remco

tnx penquinx, i like the arms better now. But what i don`t like about my character are the shoes, the aren`t realistic, i don`t know really why, could someone help me out and give me a tip how to make realistic shoes with low resolution characters?

I'll do an edit, if you'd like, later tonight on my home PC. The biggest tip I can give you with the feet, in general, is that you'd probablly see them a bit more straight-forward than to the side in a pose like that.

Remco

I always like an edit, tnx for your all your reply`s by the way! But for the feet, if they are straight forward, the making of the walkcycle will be harder then right?

In the sense that foreshortening would be more important with the feet straight forward, yes, it could be deemed more difficult.

However, I'm not sure if you will get a natural looking walk with his feet out to the side.

Remco

i don`t know how to get them realistic forwards.

I'll upload a couple of sketches tonight if it would help. check the tutorials thread, as well. Good stuff abound, there.

Remco

i`ve already looked in the tutorial topic, but i didn`t find tutorials for character sprite making.
