I saw Troy yesterday and was quite suprised, it was actually very good.  From the previews, it looked to be a epic battle type of film, but the plot was actually  quite interesting.

The fact that it was a 15 rated film allowed the film makers to make it fairly violent.  Also, you didnt get any little kids screaming out every 5 minutes.

I'm not going to give anything away, but if you have seen it, tell me what you thought of it.

(p.s ignore the one i put in the comp and activities forum, i have no idea why i did that)

I hear it had some pretty bad historical accuracy :)

Considering its based on Homers Iliad, I'm not surprised... :P

Note::If you meant to be sarcastic... then I'm lame... :'(

It can be "Homericly innacurate", but since the Iliad was just an interpretation of a man (or a group of men) of a real battle, we just can't say...

As for the movie, I enjoyed it... It's not the new Ben-Hur, but it was ok...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I was pleasently surprised as well, even though I didn't have that high expectations.

As for being inaccurate, I think they had to rewrite some of the events that took place in Homero's original version, since that version wouldn't suit a modern film very well; for starters, all women in Homero's Illyad were either kidnapped or raped, or sometimes both. In the film, they changed it so that most women (Like Helen) weren't kidnapped, but volontarily involved in romantic affairs etc.

Also, they chose to omit all the gods, which makes some things rather weird; Achilles' superiority is too great to have natural reasons anyway, so they could just as well have thrown in some deities to make things easier to explain.

And heck, I can't stand Orland Bloom's acting (or lack thereof)...he was pretty good as Legolas, but for every movie he's been in after that, his lack of acting skills becomes more and more blatant...

Of course.... Orlando's only there to act as eye candy, although I don't know what the hell girls see in him.

On a side note, only 100 out of 172 top reviewers (58%) gave Troy a thumbs up. Check it out here: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/Troy-1132530/

In my opinion, it is a mediocre movie, and it has almost nothing to do with the Illiad - for example, when Hector goes to fight Achilius(sp?) he runs away at first, and Apolo uses a trick to help Achilius.

I enjoyed it too, although there are only so many lighting-funeral-pyre scenes I can endure before yawning.
I thought Orlando Bloom was ok, but Eric Bana(l) as Hector was weak.
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II
