Hi!

Im making a new game and it takes place in the 1880's-1890's London. I have a little trouble with the maincharacters view, he doesn't look the same on the sideview as he does on the front- and diagonal-views. If you have any suggestions don't hesitate to ask.

Any help would very appriciative!

EDIT: Added sideburns infront of the ears
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Fixed his nose
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Fixed the collar
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Changed the hair color on the views with the back turned and filled some gray hair
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Added more contrast in both face and hands
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Fixed hands shadows and colors
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Fixed buttons and outlines
Fixed sideviews arms and the arms shading

(I meant that the sideburns were infront of the ears, just that I wrote the opposite :P)

Layabout

He needs a beard, and some ears and a ponytail.
I am Jean-Pierre.

I think the main problem lies here in de hair.

In front view the character doesn't seem to have that much hair (even a receding hair line)
Then in side-view the character suddenly has HUGE sideburns and the hair looks something like a pacman sprite ;D

Maybe you should make the hair stick out more from that circle that makes up the head now, just to show it's not a helmet but live hair.

The body looks sweet though, i like the shine on the shoes :)
Good luck!

Uhm.. what?
Almost intentionally left blank.

A-Hed

But he DOES have a beard, or at least sideburns. And yes, the ears may be to hard to make out, but why would he have a ponytail? He's supposed to be a straight up, quite obedient kind of guy. The ponytail does not go with his image.

Thanks for the tip anyway!  :D

A-Hed

Whoa! Didn't even had time to finish the first reply.  :P

I did know it was the hair though, but I didn't know how to fix it. Now i think I know, thanks very much for the help, appreciate it very much!

Ok I made the hair much less, added more shading to the ear and fixed the sideburns so they don't cross with the hair to much. EDITS (see first post)

Uhm.. what?

I mean that there are many people that is sitting at home looking through the forums, see some mistakes on one sprite/background and don't care to reply about it. I am like that to.Ã,  ;D

EDIT:

What I think Oneway was confused by, is the fact that you don't "ask a suggestion".

Also, as to the actual picture..
He looks like he's wearing a light stocking over his head.  IE, the face is a bit blurred.
From the side, he looks like he has a pig's nose.
The shine on the shoes for the far left and far right are nice, only the rest look to be in the wrong place.
He has stains where his buttons should be.
Sideburns go in front of the ears.

Needs work, but could be good.  Kinda like the Gene Machine.

What do you mean about the stocking?  :-\

the face is a bit blurred.
Since he is going to be a bit small in the game, i think it will look just right with the little blury face.

The nose can't be in any other way because if I add any pixel at all he either look really wierd or his nose becomes very pointy.

The shine I will fix and the buttons to, I just wanted to hear about his face because it doesn't look the same as the other views + I haven't completed the views.

Sideburns go in front of the ears.
If you look again the sideburns goes from the chin up behind the ears, it's just a pixel missing that indicates that the sideburns connected with the hair.

Thanks for the tips, looks like i've got some job to fix.

I had a quick stab at it..  Nose and Lambchops..

For the nose, removing a pixel looks a bit better.
As for the stocking..  I meant the blurredness.  You can't see the features of a bank robber's face very clearly.

The sideburns..  I can see they go behind the ears, but real sideburns don't.  The are in front of the ears.  Your character currently has rearburns.  Which sounds extremely painful.

EDIT:
Also, try to avoid jpg's.  They suck.  Use gif for up to 256 colors, after that use png.

He looks a bit stiff in the side view - his head is back and his shoulder is raised.
I agree that the sideburns should be in front of the ears, just so you don't think Iqu is picking on you.
And that the face looks a little blurred - although I think that could be improved by upping the contrast on the fleshy parts.
Oh, oh, and the hands are a little small and underdetailed.
Finally, in the 3/4 rear view, I think at least his ear should be visible, and a part profile.
It's pretty nice though!

Hi Steve!

I admit that he looks very stiff but as I only have been working on the head(s) I haven't put any energy down to the body, just the shape.

I will however add a little more detail in the rear views so you can see the ear or something like that.

Thanks!

hm. character looks pretty good already, but there's some few things that i'd suggest to overlook:

1) I'm not a 1880's London townsfolk fashion expert, but this guy looks like he's playing together with Limp Bizkit or Bloodhound Gang. At least, he has same monkey-style beard and haircut. And even face. Why not give more beard around his mouth and even add some moustaches to give him more refined and solid look?

2) hat. he definetly needs a hat. andÃ,  maybe a walking stick (cane?).Ã,

3) Suit... while face is nicely detailed, I can't say that about his suit. Maybe try making it brighter and add some pattern to it or something? Shading colors on suit blend too much too, make some brighter, or your hard shading work remains invisible to players because their monitor brightness is not as high as yours.

4) Line tool is not an answer: on side view, his arm is way too stiff and straight. Give it some shape. bend it like letter "V" a bit towards his back, just not too much.

A-Hed

Hey there InCreator!

1) Have you seen the movie "From Hell"? The characters in that movie isn't shabby at all, only nice and clean clothes.

2) Yes, he's going to have a hat but these views is intended for when he's indoors. Walking stick is a good idea but the risk is that he may look either old(er) or like a snob.

3) I will probarbly make the suit brighter and/or more contrast but only a little, the suit should really be quite dark gray.

4) I will try making it a little slack, but as I said, the guy should be quite tense and not so relaxed. I still know it's as stiff as can be, but I haven't finished all of the body, some details remains.

That really helped, thanks vey much!

Well, you don't have to draw spaghetti for his arm.
Just a little relaxation, like this:

Note the thumb too. You character needs it, if you want to make him more realistic and less like victim of mishandling of explosives :D

A-Hed

You mean like this?

I have tried to make the hand more detailed but it may be to much blur (anti-aliased). I needed to follow the measurements of the sideviews hand with the measurements of the frontviews hands so it doesn't get all wrong. Acording to your drawing (which was really helpful) the hand would get much higher up than in the frontview (or in any other view).

Well, I hope it gets finished quite soon, this is my best shot so far.

Thanks for all the help you gave me!

Here's some guide to the ultimate lampchops..

NOTE: They go *infront* of the ears.

Hehe, thanks for the pics!  :D

I thought that the maincharacter shouldn't have big sideburns, I thought that they should be quite small (see the character pics), like he just started letting them grow. It's also very hard to make them look the same on all views because they are so close to the hair that they almost float together.

In your first pic (the colored one) the sideburns almost look like the sideburns on my character, the only thing that differs is that it is formed like a hockey-stick or a leg, while mine is more like a bent line (sideviews). If I make the sideburns any longer, they will form a beard because there's just one or two pixels in the sideview away from the center of the chin. And by the way, the sideburns goes infront of the ears now. I think the sideburns looks (at least a little bit) realistic.  :P

Anyway, thanks for the pics and advice!
