Yeah, all you fellow Aussies knew it had to happen. A thread about the wonderous State of Origin! I can't help myself.

How many people are Blues supporters and how many support the Maroons? I sure hope given the amount of Brisbanites here you all agree with me in supporting QUEENSLAAAAND!

(Freaking golden point... grumble, grumble...)

I can't wait for the second match because I have great seats at Suncorp ^_^ Only my second Origin game at Suncorp ever... hope it's the best one! (Though it'll always be hard to beat your first)

... and just to brag further - who has season tickets? *waves the card around and does the mexican hat dance*

Layabout

I support the winner. :p

Uh... I think I support the Geelong Cats.

Hehe, you might have seen me on the TV if you watched Channel 9 National News... I was on top of a freaking looking clown guys shoulders covered in Blues gear, face paint... actually head paint, cause my whole head was done... and then i was screaming as much as possible into it...

Or for the good people of the UK, if you watched Sky Sports coverage of it... if you follow it, you would most likely have seen me get interviewed about who I go for... my answer?

"I think I'll be going for Queensland..." and then a pause from everyone around me, wondering why I would say such a thing wearing so much NSW's stuff. They also filmed us drinking alot, sculling down a few Bundaberg Rum and Colas... so we must have gave another reason for the brits to think we are pissheads... getting asked questions for a sports report, drinking... :D

Anyway, the game was pisspoor... the crowd was dead... and the fanatics group were the quietist bunchs of dicks I have ever seen at a football game. Now I have to wait another 6 weeks for the the third game... I would be going to the second one in Queensland, but there were no more tickets when we bought ours. A few things we'd need to do would be to deface the Wally Lewis statue, and then annoy the Queenslanders so much, even if it meant getting our asses kicked, since we wouldn't feel it because we'd be totally hammered! :D

Kinoko... you'd probably be glad that I wouldn't be coming to the Origin up there... cause I would try to find you and hack on you when WE KICK YOUR ASSES GOOD AND HARD!!! :D

PICS WILL BE UP LATER!!! :D

I didn't catch much of the first 1/2 hour because the pub I was at had free beers til first points, so I was in a constant shuttle between my seat and the bar. I was also shitting myself when Buderus was held up as well.

Certainly not a classic, but tight, close and good in the light of the past week.

oh, and it's about bloody time NSW got some good out of a draw.

For all you non-Aussies, State of Origin is a football game (not soccer, but football, where you throw that brown, oval-shaped ball to each other...) between two Australian States. It's sort of like the sporting highlight of the year.

I'm pissed off, because it was shown at the big-screen at my church last night. I didn't go, but my Pastor did, and he's from new south wales. He'll be rubbing it in our queensland faces on Sunday.

Stupid NSW man, in his Stupid NSW clothes...

I just watched it at home, didn't get into it as much as usual, I go for the Blues being from NSW.

As far as the game went, It was a pretty high standard considering the number of debutants and number of top players from each team out through injury or dirty sms's

I tend to get more excited when it comes to the second match (which I hope QLD win) so there can be a decider.

And if it's 1-1, the 3rd match becomes much more interesting.

I don't like the golden point rule, i think 10 mins each way extra time, then if still undecided keep having an extra 10 mins until at the end of one of those periods if a team is infront, they win (but that's just for crowd pleasing)

but Really if it's a draw it should just end there and be called a tie

Yeah, and it's football, not the soccer one, or the rugby union one, or the gridiron one, or the aussie rules one, or the gaelic football one, but the other rugby one, league, that's it

LordHart

Wooh... I've posted my pics from Origin in the Pic Thread! :D

I agree. I remember when the golden point thing was first announced thinking "but... why?". I've never minded a tie, and after the recent Broncos/Knights game at Suncorp, I feel I truly know why. It was an amazing game, and even though the Broncos lost, I can honestly say it was the best game of the year (that'd I'd been to). Both teams had their ups and downs but mostly ups and it was so damn great just to watch two good (don't get me wrong, I freaking hate the Knights) teams just battle it out with all they had and finish up square. It was like it was "meant to be".

Then Golden Point came into play and the game was won with the oh-so-anti-climatic field goal. The crowd just sat kind of confused for a bit, because we weren't sure if the game had been won at all. It was so... -nothing-. I think it's important that a good game be won with a try, or at least a kick coming from a try. To be honest, field goals really tick me off most of the time... they're never very exciting. If I wanted to see fast kicking in play, I'd be watching AFL. I feel ripped when a game finishes without a try and the pressure of a golden point rule as opposed to 10 minutes each way is almost always going to end with a field goal for speed. It's a very disappointing way to end a good high powered game.

I would have paid to see that ^_^

Of course it was harder to tell from watching on TV but it didn't really seem like the crowd were THAT into it, at least compared to the usual Origin crowd. I remember after the first half ended thinking "Gee, the crowd have been awfully quiet since the first 10 minutes". The fanatics might have been quiet but it was strange seeing what seemed like almost a whole stand full of them @_@ Where do those wigs come from?

You'd be lucky to make it through the crowd TO the statue, I think. I know if I were heading around to that side of the stadium (it's at the opposite entrance to what we use) I'd be bending it it's feet and praying ^_- Well, I probably wouldn't, but I'm sure you'd end up at the bottom of the river if you did anything to it.

What's Novocastrian? o_O

Las Naranjas

pertaining to Newcastle.

[It also makes Newcastle the only Australian city to have a proper adjective and name for it's denizens. Sydneysider? Brisbanite? Melburnian? BAH!]

I was going to watch it, I usually do, but I was talking to my girlfriend on the phone. But NSW won so I guess thats cool.

Timosity

If I remember correctly they brought in the golden point rule after the Tied series a few years back, with QLD retaining the trophy but not actually winning it. So they figured they needed to have a result.

but I agree that field goals are a let down to a team winning, even golden TRY would be much better.

The same goes for Union, and they really need a field goal changed from 3 points to 1, or else it will never end (but it wont as long as that English guy that won the world cup is still playing, I can't even remember his name, so much for him being a big star.)
