My first character ever, and i need suggestions and critics

I'm only planing to improve his shoes and his shirt, but as it is my first character i was hoping someone over here could give me some suggestions on how to improve it



Never spend more than 20 bucks on a computer game.

Couldn't resist a quick paintover.   ;D




- Lengthened the pants
- Got rid of fingers, made closed fist
- Lightened shirt outline
- Straightened bottom of shirt
- Slightly darkened arm
- Slightly extended goatee

I'm not sure if this is following your original vision, and yada yada.  Use it how you wish.

I like it very much!

My suggestions:
- Increase contrast on the face so you can make out his facial features
- Lengthen far leg and arm, they seem slightly too short, even for this perspective
- More pronounced shoulders, the sleeves seem to protrude diagonally from the neck

I like Tiki's paintover, too.

Good job!

maybe you could sort out the legs... its going to be hard to aniamte walking from that stance

I changed some things based upon your suggestions





-Face lines darkened

Wow, it's excellent!

Only the fingers still look wrong, but they're hard to do at such a low resolution.

Here's my suggestion:

- Shortened right arm
- Redrew hands

Amazing sprite for your first ever. I still cant pixel like this. However, there are WAY TOO MANY colors. Heres a quick paintover I did. They look nearly the same.

Its a great char, and this for your first try.
But you might want to tone down on the color use, you're using a great variaty of hues of colors wich almost cant be told apart from eachother unless you take this picture and magnify it greatly.

As for the repaint part:
I redid the shading a bit and used only 3 different kinds of red for the shirt and 3 blues for the pants. I also lift the arm a bit, it was kinda long and redid the hand a bit (basicly added a few pixels to the original hand) I also redid the color use for the arms so that this one also uses 3 differnt kinds of hues (setting kind of a standart i guess :P using max 3 different hues for every color)

Keep it up, this is really good work Fertoff :)

I tried to copy that kind of shading with more subtle tones and this is what i've got, i also changed his eyes colour to a darker one,,,i think it gives him more personality

That's bloody brilliant. I thought your original sprite was very good, but I'm really impressed with how you've picked up on the best suggestions in this thread and then improved on them, while resisting others.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the dark outline of his jaw in the front view. I guess that's supposed to be his hair just barely visible from the front, but it's not really clear that's what it is. Maybe if you made it more irregular.

you are right,,,it's not quite right,,,,i'll make it go down a bit, to give the right impression of a goatee(however you spell that)

very nice, altho it seems that in the front view the arms get thicker dan in the side view. Or maybe I need new glasses :D
