Just heard it on the radio, Marlon Brando died in a hospital today. He was 80 years old. Sure, he wasn't young, and he has lived a full life, I guess, but the news of his death made me feel so sad... He was truly the best American actor of the 20th century, and one of the best actors ever, period. I, for one, will really miss you. May you rest in peace, I, for one, will really miss you.

I was very surprised to hear this too, I think mostly because he was such an influential character in hollywood.
It's the begining of an end of an era.

Brando would definatly have to be one of the greatest actors ever. My condolences go out to the family. Rest in peace Brando.

He wasn't so much great as he was influential. He was the first actor to, well.. Act the way he did.. So real.. So gritty.. So great.

You name one film that matched the intensity of Streetcar or the complexity of Waterfront that came before them.

"I coulda been a contender! I coulda been somebody!"

You were somebody, Brando.. You will be missed.

That quote was from "On the Waterfront", but nonetheless, Brando was a fine actor and will definitely be missed.
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

Well, he was 80, and his latest years weren't very happy... I think this time the "rest in peace" will mean more than just a sentence.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

LGM

Yes.. He spent a good quarter of his life dealing with court, and spent a majority of his money on court FEES.. His life was very sad, and he was very sick for almost half of it..

In the words of evil, "he needed to die".. Not because he was a bad man.. Quite the opposite.. He was a great man thrown into a terrible life.. Death was his last gift.. Now he can finally rest...

Out of my head!

That was the first thing I saw in my head when I heard Brando has died.

Unfortunatly, as you guys have already said, he was unhappy in his last years and another sad fact is that he died with no money.

He died with no money?  What does that have to do with his brilliant film career and huge fan base?  The man has earned so much more than just money and fame in his life, and the moment he dies- we are quick to state the negative things.  Marlon Brando died the other day.  He perfomed in over 40 feature films and had nine children.  I'm sure at one point in his life, the man was happy.

'When asked how he spent his time away from the camera, Marlon had this to say: "People ask that a lot," he told reporters. "They say, 'What did you do while you took time out ?' - as if the rest of my life is taking time out. But the fact is, making movies is time out for me because the rest, the nearly complete whole, is what's real for me. I'm not an actor and haven't been for years. I'm a human being - hopefully a concerned and somewhat intelligent one - who occasionally acts."'

"I drink a thousand shipwrecks.'"

We only point out the bad things as it shows that he was a survivor, he had bad things happening and he just kept going on trying to get through. He was one strong dude. RIP MB
