I have an idea, yes, surprising I know, but I do have one. I like the RON series and how it works (every ep by a different person),
and it full of wonderful humour. My idea id to make another series done in the same way, but... make it much darker and more serious. A city with a red light district ,drug problems, corruption in the police and government, murders and an assortment of many other crimes. I think this would be good for people making who want to break into the serious genre. I'm not saying no comedy but rather, make it more adult less toilet, dark humour and dry wit. Is this a good idea?

I like it.. You get the artist to start a set, and then make the first game.. I'm sure more will follow..

But you need a site up to par with the RON site and you need to be dedicated to this.. And yes, YOU need to do it.. Cause noone else will pick this up.. Well, maybe.. but it's highly doubtful..

But if you stick with this, it might just work.

Nontheless, I like the idea.

I don't think the website matters, RON didn't really have an amazing website when it started [sorry Bill!] but it is a lot of work that you will have to do because I highly highly doubt you could count on anyone else helping you

I decided to start working on it, so far i have a name a banner and a logo. The name is Filth City, the logo is a knife stabbing a black heart and the banner will be shown at the bottom of the post. When im finished posting i shall start work on the history of the city of Knightsbridge (the setting), the charactors and so forth. I will then work on a map of the town, plot for first game and hopefully it should be done by the end of the year. The banner:

Thanks LGM. Here is the backstory to the town.
HISTORY
Town name: Knightsbridge
Founded: 1856
Where: On the site of the biggest mass murder in the 1800's.
Why: It was originally a prison for the most vile criminals, the child killer Johnathan Waters was going see the commisioner and killed both gaurds went on a rampage killing 43 (still to much?) people, when he stopped killing everybody he slit his wrists, his body was found with a greatly disturbing grin on is face. The wardens that were not killed shut down the prison and built a small town there to start over and forget what had happened.
Mayor: Floyd Roberts.
Head of police: Wayne Barker

I like the general idea, though Filth City sounds more like a crappy porno title to me...

I think that to pull it off convincingly, you'll need to give every character a personality and a backstory.

Also, killing 497 people puts every mass murderer in history to shame. I doubt building a town would help cover that up at all? I mean, don't these victims have families? If that happened, I think a media feeding frenzy would be far more likely.

Point taken bb, ill change cover up to knockng to start over and try and forget what happened. Most of th dead people are convicts and a few wardens.

yea 497 is an outrageous number...

for me 12 is more like it and not as crazy as almost 500 people

also, how about the prison was just shut down... instead of a town was built over it? there are tons of prisons not in use anymore around the place.

I have modified the story, having him kill only 43 people and shut down he prison.
I have completed the background for the main character in the first game.

MAIN CHARACTER BAKGROUND

Name: Richard “Rick” Merck
Occupation: Ret. Detective
History: Richard was a first class detective at Knightsbridge PD until two years ago when his wife left him for his best friend and collegue Detective Harrison “Harry” Robinson, the two later left Knightsbridge while Richard stayed. After this his work became sloppy and he became an alcoholic, this lead to an incident were a rookie was killed in an avoidable shootout. Since then he decided to get his life back on track, quit drinking and start a P.I. office.

Plot and first puzzle.

PLOT

Charactors: Richard Merck
Plot: The first game will introduce the town and a few of its inhabitants. It will follow Richard Merck described above as he proceeds to open a P.I. office

Can anyone think of a tagline for Filth City?

But, uh, it's a great idea. Just...I wouldn't call it 'Filth City'... like BB says, its sounds kinda tacky. Maybe just use that as a working title, until somebody comes up with something which rocks hard?

I like the sound of this project - I'm not too sure on the ideals of RON though - what do you mean by:

Do they have a set team that works on games or does the last person choose the next - can anyone help?
I like the seedy town idea - but not filth city
"there goes the neigbourhood" sounds really good - kinda sinister.
Have you got any art or are you waiting to do that later? Will the art be more serious than the line-fill-line of RON?

odd: RON works by allowing anyone to make a game at any time. there is no "next" they just happen.

however you can't just do anything you want with the series and the message boards are there to keep storylines from going stupid [at least trying...]

I don't think it matters too much how serious the first game you make is. There will always be people who will kill off your main character in a German Expressionist manner.

Heh! Anyway Im also partial to Knightbridge Chronicles, got a ring to it. To answer your question Odd its a serious game with serious artwork that will be done later, right now i am only working on the story.

I personally feel that  the "mass murder prison site transformed into a town" idea sounds too... contrived... or made up... or something (no offense meant).

If you're going for the serious/ drak/ gritty angle, I'd much prefer a setting with much less storybook-like origins.

I think of a city that's somewhat Vegas-like, myself, with similar origins -- built out in the middle of nowhere, more or less, maybe partly to avoid interference from the law from some of its shadier operations (gambling, illicit sex trade, money-laundering, alcohol-running during times of prohibition, conterfeiting, drug-running, bootlegging, etc., etc., etc.)

All that having been said, I like the idea of another continuous universe kind of thing that's a little more condusive to different types of stories being told. I wish you the very best of luck with it.

As for a title, I'd like to suggest "Black Knights".
