Remember that game?, a game from Broderbund where a guy running around a level colecting crates while avoiding some crazy monks who are chasing him, well, I released a remake of the game in Flash, done for a videogames course I took this term :), it still lacks the monks' AI (hence there are no monks), but the rest of the game is ready :-P, and you're free to test it if you want.

Yes, I want to download Lode Runner (119Kb).

Just download and if you have Flash player execute loderunner.swf, or if you don't but have the plug-in for your favourite browser, browse over loderunner.html, cheers!

Same problem with me ... When I clicked to start a new game it hangs on the next screen ...

Old skool on NES.. I have that! w00t..

I want to play the PC version I had a long time ago.. That was great...

But this flash remake is good.. Add the monks!!!
You. Me. Denny's.

stuh505

what was the version of that called where you were an ostrich and you dropped eggs or something?

Gilbert

Yeah this is great! Add the monks and if possible, a level editor! Ah! Good memories, the Apple ][ versions were the best IMO.

There's only one problem, was that as usual the character(s) is(are) tiny and it's quite easily mixed up with the background (if there're monks it may be difficulty to spot them), I'll suggest whitening the background a bit.

remmies

lol WOW! Thats great I am a fan of lode runner I have one and two and your version is quite impressive and very fun!

Mmm, to you and Darth... check that you have all the files in the zip in the same directory. When you click a new game, it loads 'nivel1.xml' file, or it won't work, it's the only reason I could imagine why wouldn't it work (check as well if you have the Flash plugin player version 7, sorry if I have to oblige you to upgrade :P)

Gilbot: that's certainly a problem I saw, but adding lines to such an small clip is a problem, as it will cover almost all the body, hence looking very ugly :P.

The rest of all: Thanks a lot for your comments :), I will implement the monks' AI this weekend as I have to deliver the complete game by monday. If I caused you a little curiosity to Flash game building you can check this excellent tutorial for tile based games, from which I used heavily some code snippets to make the game work.Ã,  8)

Hehe yea, but I just said maybe making the bg use paler colours. ;)

Not one of my favourite games, but I still have the cartridge for the C64 version, actually the game just used to piss me off, along with Choplifter

But your version looks pretty cool, for a nostalgia thing-ami-bob, yeah, all it needs are those monks and it will be sweet.

and I never knew they were monks, they were just the guys that came to get you.

I was looking up a game I used to play on the C64 a while ago, 'Wizard of Wor' and found a remake of it if anyone is interested

I had Championship Lode Runner on my C64. It was mad. I love it. I had a lot of fun playing around with your remake. I found a very cool game a little while ago called "N" which is a little like Lode Runner, but with a physics engine built in. It's a lot of fun:

I had Wizard of Wor for my C64 as well! It was so cool, becuase I had this 'speech synthesising' add on for the C64 that the Wizard of Wor cart plugged into and then the Wizard yelled stuff at you. It was mad. I can't remember the exact phrases, something about 'my children' or something. All the old games with speech were great.
