First of all, this is the complete wrong forum to post in. The Critic's Lounge is for posting art that you wish to have C&C on, with the intent on improving your work. That's it. Nothing else should be posted in this forum.

That being said, there is a very large list of good paint programs that people use to make backgrouds and sprites, with alot of the being freeware. You can find the link at the top of the Critic's Lounge, or just clikc here if you're too lazy.

And please, could you read the rules to all the seperate forums before posting again?

Like Berserker linked too.. If you weren't too quick to start a whole new topic to get attention, you could've taken an extra 5 seconds to look above at the sticky topic titled "Big List of Paint Programs" Golly Gee, that was very very tough.

I shall link it again just to make sure: http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=5644.0

Now, I hate to be so sarcastic and rude.. But it's ridiculous that you had to make a whole post for something that's already been answered a zillion times. That's the number one common sense etiquette for forums. If you have a question, make sure it hasn't been answered already by searching the forums.

Anyways, I reccomend http://www.gimp.org for drawing. It's free and is a great alternative to Photoshop. ArtGem is neat if you can still find it for download.

i dunno, i seen some flipping fantastic backgrounds done in ms paint. it really just comes down to talent and practicing, and yes, what style youre going for.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

i use photoshop, paint pot is ok, but anything done in MSpaint can be done in photoshop just as well or better. I use Appleworks (mac equiv to MSpaint) for my characters.

PaintShop Pro sucks. When you don't have it, you imagine it being great, but when you get it, it sucks.
Big time.

I use MS Paint, combined with Ultimate Paint.
An interesting new kid on the block is dogwaffle. Haven't tried it, looks good.

The way you put it......it's as if you expect the program to do the creating of the background FOR you.

The most important thing when creating a background is to have talent in the first place. To be able to do good perspective on a pic, to draw details in a way in which they look like what they're supposed to, this is more important than what program you use.

Don't have talent? Practise for a while. The talent will come soon (that's what I've been telling myself at least......).

I think a lot of the best backgrounds are done by scanning a paper sketch, THEN working in Paint, or Photoshop, or whatever.

Although, at that stage, I do believe I prefer Photoshop for the most part, then put it into Paint for the final details (less tools = less hassle for detailed stuff, in my opinion)

Moox

I use paint, ultimate paint, and graphics gale.

Or Maya if you can get your hands on it.

That's always worked fine for me. I make a quick sketch witm a pencil or a pen then trace it over with MS paint. It's a lot of work but for some people it's easyer then starting the background from scratch.
