Damn! The ONLY thing wrong with my new computer (apart from a distressingly high CPU temp even on max cooling) is that it has rendered my microphone useless for no apparant reason. I shall have to buy a new one.

err flippy... dont buy a new mic. Just check the usual... is the mic turned up on windows sound controller, do you have the soundcard/onboard sound drivers installed... do you have it in the right slot?

It just can't detect it. Maybe you're right and I don't have the drivers... but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for. The mic hasn't even got a company name on it.
