Mr Flibble

I'm sure someone has asked this before, but I searching here + Google and couldn't find to prog to meet my needs.

Basically, I need an mp3 editor that will let me cut and paste sections of the song. I found one on google, but it was a huge download, something like 12 megs. I'm on 28 kps. I don't want it THAT badly*.

I found a different one with a small lil' download, but it was Win98 or above. I just happen to run the sack-O-crap we called Windows95**.

Thanks.

*Please don't suggest that I get GetRight, because I already have it.

**Please don't suggest buying a new PC either and/or updating my software.

Are you stuck in 1996?

(You could TRY Audacity http://audacity.sf.net)
You. Me. Denny's.

Mr Flibble

In the same way a man with no limbs or a wheel chair is stuck in his house.

Audacity is Win98 or higher. They have a list of outdated versions but they don't mention OS. It actually specifically mentions that it won't work on my PC. Which is a shame, because it looks just the job.

I am re-googling, this time, searching for a Win95 one specifically. But I would still prefer a tried and tested one.

If your target file should also be mp3, check out MP3DirectCut.
It lets you cut mp3 files without recompression.

Mr Flibble

Ah, this looks just the job. I shall give it a whirl.

I did actually find one on google, but it only let you import 1000 frames. Which is roughly 20 seconds.

Moox

Audacity...

Flibble, Have you ever considered getting a mini linux so thatyou can use modern proggies as well as have windows

Mr Flibble

No. I have not.
I did condider getting that thing that lets you run multiple OS's, but I don't think I have the disk space or the processing power.

Well, Strazer's worked fine, except it won't let me cut a section from one file and paste it into another, which is a major bummer.

Get a program to convert the mp3 to wav.. and back again. Convert to wave, edit with sound editor, convert it back..

Or.. Get a new friggin PC! :-p

You dont need hard drive space with some versions of linux, theres ones that you can boot off of a cd or a disk

Mr Flibble

Eh, Linux doesn''t exactly scream "Better than Windows95!" At me. On the other hand, its better than a *shudder* mac.

But that scheme..converting back and forth. Thats GENIUS! Why didn't I think of that?*

*Retorical question. Answers will be greeted by mild scorn.
