Who's coming??

Supanova for those of you who don't know is a sci-fi/cult/comic/anime/geek convention held one or twice a year in Australia. This weekend (18th and 19th) it's in Brisbane for the second time ever and for the second time ever me and a very talented friend have a table (The Corner of Awesomeness) in the artists' alley. I encourage all in the Brisbane vacinity to get your butts down here and visit for at least one of the days ^_^

Mikey from the Goonies is coming! Also some other semi-famous people who want to make money by signing their names, like Gimli and Denethor. (Last year we had George Takai who was surprisingly charismatic.) You can get stuff signed for like $40! WOW!

Better yet, you can see me and buy one of my awesome comics. Yeah! Fuckin' A, man. Unlike those other knobs, I sign for free XD

I think the webpage is www.supanova.com or something like that. DG, you at LEAST should be there!

Ahhh ... if only my (last minute) ticket to Brisbane wasn't $2950.00!!

I love these kinds of conventions!Ã,  I think it's a tad on the rediculous side to pay $40 for an autograph of a psuedo-famous actor.Ã,  But alas, I don't make the rules!

A jack-ass friend of mine (my best friend) once got us kicked out of a Star Wars convention becuase he boosted a 12" Han Solo from some guy's booth.Ã,  He was quite a clepto back then.

I did get to meet the Predator ...

I'm a little freaked out from the last one after all those cosplayers. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell this is:

It doesn't look like anything!

Also, Peter Mayhew can kiss my bollocks! $40 for an autograph! Bah! He played a shaggy doormat in Star Wars! I'm not going to pay $40 for an autograph from some guy who spent a movie groaning in a costume!

Chris Sabat, on the other hand, was a champion. Class act all the way.

I think that big blue guy was everyone's mystery man at Supanova. In the end, I got up and asked him who he was. Can't for the life of me remember what the answer was though...

The cosplayers are surely a scary bunch but rest assured, my slim, cute, young asian friend will be dressed as a police woman this year so it won't be all bad. I really want a power outlet so I can play Kiss music at the table all weekend...

Was that in response to my 'Predator' statement? Ã, If so, Peter Mayhew didn't play the Predator, that was Kevin Peter Hall. Ã, Either way though, you're definately right. Ã, I wouldn't pay the 40 bux for either of them! Ã, I bumped into him getting some coffee.

And who is Chris Sabat? Ã, I don't recognize ... I searched IMDB and only found this: Christopher Sabat.Ã,  Is this him?

And what are 'cosplayers' ... boy you Austrailians just fill me with questions ;)

Fill me in!!

Just search for cosplay on google image search, Darth, and you'll soon find out...  ;)

Kinoko: It kinda looks like a penguin with throat cancer, but I've never seen one of those in any anime I've seen.

Darth: Mayhew played Chewbacca. He's actually hairier in real-life.

And that is indeed the right Chris Sabat. I've never watched an episode of Dragonball Z in my life, so at first I had no idea who he was. But the dude was classy. Way better than Mayhew.

And cosplaying is a dress-up that people do. Mainly anime fans do it. Here's probably one of the most disturbing examples (though I'm sure there are plenty more):

I knew Mayhew was Chewie (couldn't call myself an old-school star wars fan otherwise!)Ã,  I thought you were thinking that he was also the Predator.Ã,  No worries, I just got confuse-ed.

And thank you for ruining my eyes with that cosplayers link ... good lord!!!Ã,  If that's what I have to look forward to at the Brisbane Supernova I'm definately buying that ticket now!!!

Ah, to meet the actor who played Chewbacca! I would shower him with great many questions concerning his craft. I'm not sure which of Chewbacca's two groans I like better, though.

Keep in mind that Man Faye looks hideous on purpose. It was his goal to horrify. Countless other cosplayers look almost that bad (and some worse) completely on accident. "I'm a cute little cat girl, nyao!" comes out of many a 400 pound teenager.

Woohoo! It's over for another year. Did anyone else but DG come? Well, thanks to you, sir, anyway. 'Twas good to see you again. I'll be doing a Supanova report sometime this week so I'll put the url up here when it's done (if anyone's interested).

As usual, lots of scary cosplayers but a bunch of excellent ones including the Tick, Arthur and American Maid, who all looked fantastic. Best of all, I made a decent amount of money! It's all gone now thanks to the heap of bills that arrived before the weekend *sigh* All fun though.

Mayhew is renowned for being a first-class asshole.  I guess he's just bitter about playing the part of a big rug being his sole life achievement.
