I tried pushing the plant to see if it was under there but the only thing that happens is he says, "I like it better there."

Try using the butter knife (in the kitchen) on the sofa cushion.

If I try to use the knife with the cushion he says, "I don't think that will work."

I just tried it and it was under the plant, then I restarted again and it wasn't.  The only thing I can suggest is to restart the game and try several times.  If it still doesn't work I can send you a save game from when he has the card.

  i restarted the game and looked under the plant and it wasn't there so i went into the next room and pick up the cushin and found there
