Sam.

EDIT: Oops, posted in the wrong board. could a mod kindly move me?

i am working on this image for the intro to my new game, so you get the jist oif it, ill give a brief synopsis. The screen fades up to the top bit of the image, pause, title of the game fades up, pause, fades down, screen scrolls to the cityscape where a location things is saying, "Ney york - 9.00pm".Ã,  the skyline, to my eys does not lok right. I though perhaps a fresh set from you guys could help give me some ideas.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Here's a real pic of New York City at 9pm. :)

UP

Well that loks like it only has one row of flat houses and nothing after them...

And also, I would add a bit deeper shadows to show the lakes of the moon...

Try adding some glow around the windows/buildings - there's a huge style difference  between the moon and the buildings (actually the skyline reminds me of a VERY old screensaver I used to have).

But Dave it's not New York in that picture, it's Ney york ;)

The lights in some of the buildings look too patterned and not random enough.

Also, as mentioned, there's no depth.Ã,  Just one row.Ã,  Try adding some buildings behind.

Maybe add some signs, traffic lights, cars, roads, power lines, antennas, etc.

Try InCreators background drawing tutorial as reference when you'll draw those buildings. He has a very good and easy technique to make them.

That picture dave gil posted of times square reminds me of Blade Runner for some reason...  :D

Just an idea about illuminating random windows: use a big yellow airbrush and spray a small area, cut out a rectangle and size it up to say 5 times the width and 10 times the height, clear the white areas, cover it with a dark grid and put a dark rect behind it.

About your pic: I'd say shade the buildings and make them a little 3d.
Also paint many stars at moon level and lesser further down, due to smog one can only see about a tenth of the actual stars when standing in a big city like ny.

hope it helps
