I've been working on some VGA backgrounds, I've mastered EGA/AGI background now Im moving on to VGA.

What do you guys think? Paintovers are welcome!  8)

Niceness. I really like the trees. Although the mountains behind the trees gives a mixed feeling. The mounatins seem cold while the trees ans such seem warm.

Developer

Thanks, I spent some time on the trees. The white mountains are very far away, thats why they are white.  8)

It still seems to have a mixed feel. Look like it would be a warmish place with a icy breeze. I don't know. Its just the feeling it seems to give off.

Developer

I'll blend the mountains with the sky so its not a strong white.

Any more commments. Please?

The mountains should not get darker to the ground - it looks like a shadow at the bottom of the mountains.
The picture itself is too blurry. The outlines of the mountains should be sharper. Add shadows unter the trees. It looks like there would be just one line of trees in the landscape. If this is supposed to be a forest you should add more trees (darker) in the background.
if your grandmother or any other member of your family should die whilst in the shelter, put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes

Developer

Notice the title VGA? Its been pixelized.

Oz

Nice scenery, but the picture is too blurry. You need to define the outlines better (in my opinion!). Also, try pattern dithering as an alternative method (for a cleaner image).

What does being VGA and being pixelized have to do with one another?
Being VGA at least in this instance should mean more then 256 colors. You can still get definition between objects.
Although not being hand drawn this is a VGA image of around the same size as yours.

I agree with the blurry thing. What does pixelized have to do with it? Some of the old 16 color games wernt as pixelized/blurry as that

I find that in 320x200 VGA 256 color styling, there is a bit of pixelated edges to things.  I always put a slight mosiac filter on the pictures.  Take a look at old Sierra Backgrounds, and old LucasArts backrgounds.

Problem

VGA looks pixelized because of the resolution (320x200). So if you make a VGA background at 320x200, you don't need to pixelize it any more, it's already there.  ;)

Developer's background doesn't look like VGA anymore, it looks like 160x100 to me.

VGA = 8 bit / 16/256 colors.

EDIT:

16-colors - 640x480
256-colors - 320x200

Yes, you're right.
But if he is going for the classic Sierra/Lucas Arts look, this means 320x200/256 colours, and it isn't necessary to pixelize anything, like he did.

Yes. If running that video mode. True. :)
