New Forest Tutorial

I whipped up  new tutorial on Sierra similar forests. I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, feel free to move it. Enjoy!

Really should belong in the tutorials thread in the Critic's Lounge.

Very nice tutorial. The only thing I don't like about it (besides bad perspective) is the lack of reasoning behind the techniques. Even though I know why I should use what colors and for what, many other people don't.

Wow, that's a very nice tutorial.  I produced something pretty good for a first timer (if I do say so myself  ;) )
I fail at art.

Very interesting!  I like the technique but *someone*  ::) needs to work on their perspective.  The buildings on the Town tutorial are hard to look at, the roof tiles are like backwards perspective. 

BUT, this isn't the critics lounge. :)
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

I think I do need some help, I don't understand my perspective errors. But perspective has always been by biggest problem so I should get help soon. Maybe a mod could toss this in the critics lounge and someone could show me what I'm doing wrong here. (The town pic and forest pic perspective).

I just wanted to throw in my cents times two and say nice tutorial. However, I am a bit against the blur/smudge technique. It isn't so bad in your image, but an example, in my opinion, on where it kind of stinks up the image is where the dirt path meets the grass. The dirt path and the grass look great, but the transition is blurry and looks odd. A sharp edge on the grass would really bring it out.

Yet again.. Just my opinion.

I totally agree with the poster above me on all acounts.
As for the perspective issues, you might want to do a rough scetch of  your backgrounds before you draw them. And use some perspective guidelines in the scetches as well. Just keep the scetch as a bottom layer while you draw.

Keep in mind this is a tutorial about making SIERRA-LIKE art. Which does have a mixture between blurry and crisp.

I think it's a great tut. for beginners to learn how to make some quality backgrounds.

Great job, Corby.  People can complain, but I don't see too many others publishing tutorials.

It's a nice tutorial and is easy to follow :) I like your choice of colours - especially the reds, greens and yellows. I don't necessarily agree on all the techniques, but that's just me and my way of doing things ;)Ã, 

Anyway, with regards to perspective (though I could always improve myself ;))- in your town scene, the problem is that the front wall is directly facing the viewer. Since we are looking at the front of the building straight on, we shouldn't be able to see the sides of the building as you have drawn (because the walls meet at 90 degrees). If the buildings were drawn facing at an angle to us, then we should be able to see the sides. Drawing face on, you should have a vanishing point of some sort, where the lines will eventually converge.

Also, the horizontal beam on the side wall of the left building has a completely different vanishing point to the parallel lines on the right building, and the green roof tiles don't even align with the edges of the roof (also, they shouldn't even be visible on the underside of the roof).

That's not to say that it's not really nice work. It is. I don't get the point of repetitively using the Mosaic filter to pixellate instead of just resizing the image at the end, but whatever you feel like...
