Here is a tight jam session for you:

I'm going for that 70's urban feel, trying to capture the pulse of the city.
The beat is a little repetitive, I'd like to break it up a bit, but I'm not sure how. Any ideas?

I hope you like this one!

Turn down the Q on the lowpass filter on the clavinet. The beat isn't too repetative, but try putting in a steady, funky conga beat every now and then for a section. The bass is nice and growly, but try having a hip-hop style walk as a fill before each pattern. In the intro, try adding a Jamiroquai-style whiny sine melody, with portamento. Ooh, and maybe a tasty guitar solo, too.

Good job! I recognize that guitar loop sound, though.

Thanks! The guitar line is not a loop though, it's a composition of individual cuts from a recorded sample. :)

I still have a lot to learn when it comes to mixing.
I'll see what I can do about the clav (although I want it to stand out a bit) and yes, some congas would really add to the groove. Oh, and I could use the Malstrom synth in Reason to add an analogue synth line for the intro. :)

Sam.

the "selecta" bit jarred me. i didn't really felt it fitted. the other vocals were nice though. i agree with the JamiroquaiÃ,  thing though.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Yeah... I just threw it in there, I agree it's not very fitting. ;)

I, on the other hand liked the selecta. Makes it sound like it was recorded live. But not when it comes twice. I wonder if there is an effect to make it sound live recorded?
