   Hello,
I'm working on a horror adventure game named Lost In The Nightmare and thinking of releasing a demo in a week, if any problem doesn't occur. (Yes, I know I had mentioned this game a long time ago in Critics Lounge, and I'm yet releasing the demo. Because I couldn't work on the game so much because of the school. Also didn't avoid preparing some backgorunds again).

Pre-rendered 3D backgrounds taken from the Half-Life engine are used in Lost In The Nightmare. I'm preparing the HL maps with Valve Hammer Editor by myself and using modified versions of the textures and models of the mods like They Hunger, Medieval World.

The main character is Burak Guney, a private dedective who used to work for the police (he is a bit depressive character). You are hired to find three university students who got lost in a forest near the Karabalta Town while camping. They have been lost for 3 months and the police couldn't find any clue what happened to them. You'll stay in Karatas Hotel during your investigate (The story will be supported by the cutscenes with cinematical camera pitches).

The game also includes nightmare levels where you play the alternative dark conditions of the real places like Silent Hill series. For example, you will play the hotel level when it's dark and the walls are rusted (the demo's puzzles won't be too hard as the demo takes place in the 2nd level of Lost In The Nightmare).

The nightmare levels give me the oppurtinity of using all kinds of fantastic environtments and events.

I was assisted about the scenario by OlcaytoCarlos and LazyZ.

I also need someone who could draw inventory item sprites for the game.
Yes, waiting for your comments...

EDIT: Here's the demo:

Looks good!

Yet, Valve Hammer isn't what I'd use for 2d adventure game.

You can pretty easily develop Valve level editor's simpleness in 3ds Max or Gmax using Game Level Builder plugin. Yet, the detailed part, such as reflections, bumpmaps, advanced lightning and dozens of stuff what makes max so great - stays...
Oh well...

Since various of your bg's have been appearing at CL for a long time, I hope you'll finish your game soon!

Thanks, Increator :) I'm thinking of using these programs for my next game projects.

Hey! I remember this, it had quite a potential...

So you can die in this, right? What about the nightmare levels? Can you die in them? And what happens? It would be cool if you would've been able to do my suggestion and you'd wake up and miss some hints or something... ;)

Thanks :) You can't die in the demo, but maybe I can add it later.

By the way, I also need beta-testers for the demo.

You can't die in the game? No, don't change that, I just thought you were able to die... I usually hate it if you can die in the game...

Or were you just talking about the demo? ::)

I was talking about the demo. You will be able to die in "the real life" at the following last levels of the game. (I don't think you need to hate when we die in the game as there will be check-points in the game. So you won't need to restart the game even though you hadn't saved.)

I've got good news. I completed the demo today. Though still not finished translating of the game into Turkish and typing the readme.txt file. It may take about 1 or 2 day.
By the way, I'd glad if somebody could give me host for the game.

Good work!

I really liked the atmosphere, creepy. A few comments. Because of the resolution the edges would need anti-aliasing. You could maybe first make backgrounds large and then scale the images down in some image editing software. Use bicubic setting, if I remember right it makes downscaled images quite smooth.

One more thing: I personally would consider leaving out the white text boxes. They make such a brigt ligth in the middle of the darkness; I would just have the text.

Great idea, great work - I hope you finish it!

Hey CoolBlue-Gord, it was really tricky trying to get the download link to work, as TriPod does not like linking to files form outside it's domain, so I had to "trick" it to copy and past your file link to when I was redirected to your "under construction" page.

Anyways, I finally managed to download the demo, and I played through it. It's really a good job! I enjoy the overall atmosphere of the game with nicely done graphics and choice of errie music & sound-effects. The story really was interesting so far and kept my attention throughout and makes me look forwards to seeing the completed project.

The interface was a bit cumbersome, unsure of where to click, or how to exit a screen (had to experiement by trying to click on various parts of a screen as there was no indication of where to click to exit), and needed to use keyboard "tab" key to bring up the Inventory, which I guess is fine but it would also be nice to have a interactive feature by using the mouse in which you can bring up inventory or in game commands to choose from as well.
Graphics were nicely done, but sometimes a bit dark and hard to make out some details or to see clearly, but perhaps that was the look your were going for.
Still, overall, I thought your demo is really good. I enjoyed it and has some unique perspective.

Best wishes,
--- Don "The Barbarian".

PS: By the way, I've uploaded your zip demo file to one of my sites so people can feel welcome to download it now from:

I'll keep it up there for a while.

Update:
I might start using the Half-Life 2 engine for the game. But it would be hard for me as I've no experience about HL 2 mapping and being obligated to remake all the background scenes.

The lake in the town. (I will work on it)

A flashback in a hospital. Burak Guney reminds something sad for him.

A cutscene in the intro. (Let me confess, the desk lamp wasn't modelled my me :-[ )

I've modified the character in the game.

I don't want to give more info about the story. You should see it in the game =)

Hi,

I just played the demo and haven't found any problems.

However, I know by clicking on ESC button bring save, restore, quit and ect... screen and as to F9 back to starting screen.

Obviously, I didn't realize about ESC button until I clicked on.

Therefore, for the benefit of new members who aren't acustom to AGS games, I suggest that add more description to exit, save game ect... to your text file or in game.

I am looking forward to game advancements. Good Luck.

Gord10

Thanks :) I'll add more info about the ESC button to the readme file.

Update: I'm thinking of finishing the game in July or August 2005. As I told you before, I don't want to spoil the story so much. Here are some new screenshots (most of them are cut-scenes).

Burak Guney isn't such a lucky private investigator.

Waking up to a tiring day (its the replaced background, where he woke up in the demo)

A dark forest.

Alper Taner. An important character.

A private detective should study the cases well.

A flashback about losing someone we loved.

The graveyard of the Karabalta Town.

Also I had released a trailer for the "Release Something" activity.
