Hi and happy Valentines Day!
(Just saw the easter-egg - great! :)

I use a graphics tablet that is not supported
by ags. I would have to reboot the pc to use the picture I just drew with the tablet in the editor
after unplugging it and replugging my mouse.
Now I played award -winning full daylight by 2m2/ intoxicated little bunny and surprisingly here the tablet worked. I suspect he used another mouse-script if there is such? I could not find anything like it online
but it would make my life a lesser kind of hell if someone could help. sadly 2m2s site is down so I don't know if he comments on this neither could I contact him.

Would be glad if someone could helpàŸ me with my problem! Best wishes and regars!

I say it's doubtfull that the 'full daylight' designers used a different way to handle mouse movements. This isn't something you can just script into the editor.
The way a ags handles an input device's movement and button clicks is coded into the ags engine and not in a script.

Have you tried playing other games with your tablet plugged in? did it work aswell? And are we talking about full functionality here (pen movement and at least two functioning buttons?)

Not owning a tablet myself so i'm not sure if this suggestion makes sence or not: Can't you just use an USB mouse so you can have both tablet and mouse connected at the same time?
Almost intentionally left blank.

Valerian

Oneway, thank you for your time! :)

Full Daylight is full functioning. (curser and two buttons)
All the other games I tried did not at all
function with the tablet.
Full Daylight says 'dos version' - maybe an old ags-editor with other routines? 8I really do not hope so!!!)
:( As for USB, I don't have a functioning port (never got it to work) so that would sadly be no solution for me :(

This is a bit more advanced than what we usually deal with here. I don't know if you have to register for the Tech Forum or not, but if you do, I hope you don't mind having to do so in order to read/reply to this thread in that forum. They can better help you, especially CJ Himself. :)
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

Have you tried this multiple times? If not, the plugging unplugging may have led to the computer getting confused and thinking your tablet was a mouse (it happens on occasion with mine in image software stuff, usually when I'm using a bit of both -- the tablet pen will suddenly start acting mouse-like [i.e., without absolute coordinates].).

Otherwise, I have NO idea.

Oh. And it's "Permanent Daylight" btw.

Valerian

Sorry I seem to have made that mistake several times now, thanks for correcting this. Of course it is permanent daylight - it should be clear from the plot-line already, sorry. :-[
As for the tablet thing: this happens with the tablet having been on all the time. I did not change devices, so I suppose that's not it.  :(

I'm not sure what to suggest, really. AGS just uses DirectInput to get the mouse, so if your tablet works with that it should work with AGS. Can you use it in non-AGS games?

Permanent daylight was a DOS game, so possibly the mouse emulation in the DOS box does support the tablet.

Gilbert

Hmmm can't you have a mouse and a tablet simultaneously? Normally you don't need to unplug the tablet, just play the games with a mouse, unless it's some strange problem that interferes with the mouse so it can't be used in AGS games while the tablet is plugged in.

I think it depends on the tablet's driver. Most tablet drivers supports mouse functionality with the windows desktop, but may not be functional for full-screen modes or otherwise (like my antique Wacom Penpartner say for example, but the mouse still works there). It sounds to me that your tablet driver just do also mouse emulation for DOS boxes, but not in some circumstances like full-screen windows apps, in that case try also setting up the games to run in windows mode and see if the tablet works.

P.S. the game's called "Permanent Daylight", not "Full Daylight", no big deal though, I guess you're probably using a translation software, right?

Valerian

That did it. I compiled a test game in DOS and my mouse
worked. So it seems the problem is related to my tablets driver?

Does anyone know how to fix this that it would work with
Windows compiled AGS Adventures?

I sadly cannot use both, a mouse and the tablet at the same time. (Hardware-related).

Do you think I could compile my work for DOS for the testing-phase and then simply compile the final version for Windows? Is there anything I miss here right now that
would make it a bad idea?

What if I compiled the final version for DOS - do you think
it would be unplayable on contemporary systems?

Suggestions appreciated and thanks for your tips everybody!

Gilbert

Hmmm have you tired setting up the games to run in windows mode and see if the tablet works? This way you can also test a windows compiled game without having to reboot. If it's a tablet driver problem, chances are you can't fix it anyways unless there's an updated driver which fixes this problem (or maybe mess with the driver's settings).

But if you can run DOS games without problem under windows, testing them with the DOS engine is okay too, as normally the DOS engine was not tested as thoroughly as teh windows one, so games that work under DOS engine should works also under windows engine (well I used to test the DOS engine but I'm just lazy busy at the moment :P ). But also bear in mind that there're several features missing from the DOS engine, like playing AVIs and plugins, if you're going to play FMV AVIs or use a plugin you should not test your games with the DOS engine.

Valerian

 :) busy you :)
Yes I tried windows mode but it did not work.
It did however slow down the intro-screen on the demo game you can download for ags. So _something_ seems to be going on there at least ... Ã, ???
They don't have a driver update. I might look into how to do this if that's a even a tiny bit realistic ...
I'm not planning on doing avis (just good old cutscenes with the editor ;) )but I don't know about plugins ... ???

However I found out that thereis a key-mouse that comes with windows and uses the number-key pad.
- this however strains one's joints very much :(

I also fund scripts that enable walking the character with arrow keys - both are ways around my problem at least, althogh not too satisfying ... :(

Thanks anyway everybody - maybe someone still'll come
up with a really, really good solution ... *hope*

P.S.: I don't use a language version, it's just stupid me, that's all :(
