Games are art!
My horror game, Self

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

New information below: 1/23/2005
(Please read the edits below for the most recent updates)

I am currently working on a project called Darkmoor Manor, which is based on a short story I've written called the Darkmoor Curse (this was done well before I ever heard of the Nancy Drew game). The goal is to create a professional-quality game within 2 months time using the Adventure Game Studio by Chris Jones. The team currently consists of Luke (Space Pirate Caine) as the background artist, Steve Mansell as the scripter, and myself. What we are looking for is a talented background colorist who will work tirelessly with me to create a memorable and immersive experience. A few images of the current gui design in action and some of the characters follow:

The current gui (operational)

The current menu (operational)

Some animations of the five characters you can use in the game

and an ambient tune for Darkmoor Manor
http://members.cox.net/veradin/Darkmoorday1a.rar

And now for the story:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The year is 1982, when computers were just beginning to boom and free enterprise had reached a new pinnacle. Father Alan Brophy, a Catholic priest, has come close to being defrocked for his controversial essay "The Supernatural Religion", in which he cites much support for the existence of ghosts and dark forces- perhaps forces that are even more dangerous than the Devil. This essay, meanwhile, has attracted the attention of a pioneer in the field of Parapsychology, Luke Bradshaw, who has been investigating strange phenomena with his team for a few years on grant money from his college. Luke is running low on resources, however, and latches on to Father Brophy's interest in the supernatural to draw him into a trip to Darkmoor Manor, a lonely estate in Wales.

The five investigators have been asked by the current tenants of the Manor to help them free it of a terrible curse, and Bradshaw and Brophy intend to use this opportunity to prove or disprove the existence of ghostly apparitions once and for all. Little do they know that they are about to hit the Unnatural Jackpot, and it may cost them all their very souls!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The completed short story will be shipped with the game and will offer more backstory on the characters and (hopefully) amplify the experience for the readers among you.

The entire adventure (minus the introduction) will take place in and around Darkmoor Manor, a sinister yet docile-looking Manor bordering a near impenetrable forest. Much of the game is played as Luke Bradshaw, though there are times you will switch to Father Brophy and the other characters, and the entire of the game is told from Brophy's perspective (making for some interesting text feedback on certain actions).

The resolution will be 320x200, which is both faster to design quality backgrounds for and quick for animation purposes. The reason is simple: We will not spend more than 2-3 months on this project, so it will be finished in that time. This is going to be a test of the abilities of all persons involved to turn out a quality product in as short amount of time as possible.

Again, this will be an entire game, but it is also a test of abilities and creativity under a real time constraint. This is not a contest, and the scripter and background artist will most likely be offered further opportunities should this project pan out. Hope to see emails from you soon,

Edit: After a slow holiday start, Nataly has already turned out a technical demo with a fully-functional gui, menu, and screenshot utility as well as Father Brophy and the other characters walking around and responding to objects. If you are a competent background artist with a flair for dark and moody designwork, contact me immediately.

Edit 2:  Nataly had to leave the team due to school, but in return I found an excellent background artist, Luke Rideout.  You'll see some of his work in the future, but we now need a talented scripter and a background colorist to get things moving.  If you feel you are qualified for either (or both) positions, please email me at Lord_Hades@uomail.com with a sample (or link) of your work. Also let me know, in a short paragraph, a bit about you and your work ethic, and having an interest in this type of game is a plus.

Edit 3:  Steve Mansell joins Darkmoor as our scripter!  He's already picked up where Nataly left off and completed the terrormeter, and I think you guys are going to like the results.  We are still looking for a background colorist, though, so please contact me at the above email with a sample of your work if you're interested.  Darkmoor needs you!

Hey yall,
I've already said this on the same page but I'm getting desperate. If you can draw non-cartoony backgrounds, please contact me to work on Knightsbridge Chronicles. This is not a large task, there are not that many BGs.

I`m making an adventure game, with some RPG qualities. It`s called White Dragon Black Magick, and is about a boy that (due to a fact happened during his infancy; i prefer to keep this secret until a demo is released) learns the Black Magic.
He begins a trip to test his skills with the final hope to find the White Dragon Kolbrenymar, one of the most ancient and expert practicers of necromancy.
But then , thanks to the dragon, he will discover that is old master is not the one he thought.....

The game is based upon a RPG (paper&dice) of my creation, and so its rules will be briefly explained in a readme file. As I said, the RPG elements are few, so this will be only an adaption of the RPG. The setting is based on the fantasy world I created (more details are welcome, to those who can be interested).

The interface is made by:

- a single cursor: left click to walk; right click popups a Gui, with the buttons: talk, get, look, interact, cast spell, magic book, use inventory, sense magic.
Clicking on an hotspot, object or other char with the right click, and then clicking on the desired button, performs the action on that hotspot, obj etc.
Cast magic instead, opens another gui, with the list of spells currently known, Book of Magic displays a dialog (use to know information on each spell learned); Use inventory opens the inv interface.

-in the bottom part of the screen, a permanent Gui shows: what`s under the mouse; the PM (Points of Magic, like Mana, used to cast spells); the PAv (Advancement Points, similar to experience points, in this game only used to increase PM); the Level of Power (the measure of the wizard`s casting power. You can cast certain spells only if you are at a certain level of power. The more PM you have, the more your Level is high).

- I also made the menu, and ripping and modifying, a little part of the main character.

Now, due to my inability to draw, I`m stuck, if I don`t find someone to help me.
I thought to made my game in italian (i`m italian, obviously) but I`m ready to do it in english instead, if this is a problem.

In sum: if anyone is interested in this project, and is skilled enough in the difficult art of drawing, please let me know. I will send him also a demo (with testing backgrounds, and the char with only some sprites) to show him how the interfaces do work.

Hi there,

Sierra'esque faerie-tale adventure game seeks portrait artist.

Our game is KQ2.5: Tale of Two Kingdoms (see link in sig) and has been going steady for nearly a year now. Most of the room graphics are finished and the sprites are going very well, but we'd love to have another good portrait artist on our team for the pics that pop up when you talk to people. PM me if interested, please!
(the portraits do not have to be animated; we have someone who can take care of that. Game resolution is 320x200 x 16-bit; portraits would be roughly 120x120 pixels)

Thanks!

[Cameron]

Greetings all,
I am currently working on an ambitious project, it's going to be a short AGS film called "Je suis Mort" I created the concept and the script was written by Rui Pires, whom I'm sure you all know to be a great writer. I am not especially gifted in the art department and to make this work I am in need of an artist. The work would be quite intense and there is a lot of animation. If you can work as a bg artist or a character artist please contact me.
Regards,

Alec

The Mystery of the Faceless Corpse
DAY I
Intro:

(Collins' office. Alex enters)

ALEX: You called, sir?

COLLINS: Yeah, and you took your time Grier. We're the freakin' police, we don' run on flexi time!

ALEX: So what's happening? You got me a case or just more abuse?

COLLINS: Have I got you a case? Jesus, Grier there's been a murder!

ALEX: Out here? What was it, a cow?

COLLINS: Grier, you've been mouthing off about how much of a hotshot you were back in the Bronx homicide since the god-damned day you got here and now I wanna see the proof. This is Cape Cod's first murder for almost 2 years and I shouldn't think a bit of professionalism is too much to ask for.

ALEX: Jeez, sorry Collins. So, do we have an I.D?

COLLINS: No, that could be difficult, Grier. Two uniform cops are on the scene, and they tell me that the body has no face?

ALEX: No face?

COLLINS: Is there an echo in the building? Now get your ass down there, Grier. It's the Mulvehille House. You know where that is, right?

ALEX: As in the Mulvehille Sisters? Of course. But why's the body at their house?

COLLINS: You tell me, Grier. The Mulvehilles called us about an unnamed ‘problem' and we sent a pair of uniform cops over. Next thing I know I'm told we got a dead body on our hands. Now, whatever you do go easy on the Mulvehilles, they're ‘pillars of the community', after all. You don't do ANYTHING to piss them off unless they become suspects, okay?

ALEX: Whatever you say, sir.

COLLINS: Damn straight. You're taking McElroy, the new guy. Show him how it's done, and don't screw it up. I won't be holding your hand on this one!

ALEX: Sure thing.

There is more but won't put it all here . Like to work with someone over chat and  toss things around .
No hurry on when it gets done , just want to do it . feel like helping ? let me know .

Hello!

Dave here looking for a few artists to work on a project that I've been designing for the past year.  I've finally gotten the design doc ready to a point where I'd like to discuss it with artists.  I am no artist myself (as is obvious to anyone who has played some of my games), and I'd like to give the project the level of detail that I think it deserves.

I currently have an excellent sprite/animator artist on board. He is a dynamo but I figured I'd better get other folks on board before he burns himself out.  In addition to him, I am looking for someone to design close-up talking animations for the characters, and a few background artists.

The game will be in (640 x 480 resolution, roughly in the style of "I have no mouth and must scream."  (see http://www.adventure-archiv.de/i/nomouthscreenshots.htm for examples).

This will be a paid position.  I am aiming for this game to go commercial, and I believe in paying for quality work.  I'm aiming to pay around $500 along with a bonus or commission if the game sells well. I know this isn't much. I wish I could pay more, and if I am able to I certainly will.  At the very least, this game will enable a serious artist to create a diverse amount of artwork to use in a portfolio. Also, it'll be fun. If, after reading that, you are still interested - GREAT.

Please let me know if you are still interested. If so, we'll discuss it further. You can contact me at dave@davelgil.com.  Please supply an art sample or two.

Thanks!

Hi there all!

I'm looking for a Narrator for my game, 'Off the Side'. There's not really a lot to do. Just a paragraph for the beginning and a couple of sentences for the end. I'm not sure what I'm looking for really. It could be a man or woman and I'm not fussed with the age either.
Though I was thinking it could be quite a commical voice (Like Little Brittans maybe). Or it could a mature voice, fatherly or motherly, as if reading the story to a child. Though its up to you if you've got any ideas of your own.

If you fancy your self as a narrator them send me a PM and I'll send you the small script!

If you want to see what my games like then theres a link in my signiture.

Thanks if you can help!

Hey everyone.
I'm looking for some more voice actors for Ravenmere. I currently have 3 people, but still need more people to do the remaining voices.
I'm finding it very difficult to get a female voice actor for Sarah, one of the main characters in the game, and Deanna, another important character.

Below I have some of the characters I'm looking for with their descriptions and sample texts.
If you feel you can do one or more of these, please record the sample text and PM me.
I would truly appreciate it.

Sarah - 28 year old psychic woman, very good looking. Nice voice.
Sample:(Distressed)"Alex! Where the hell are you? Something is very wrong here. If you get this message, fetch the Codex!"

Aldon Roberts - 27 year old Paranormal investigator. Sometimes a bit of a nerd.
Sample:(Determined)"I know the answer lies with those letters. And that Deanna woman? I don't trust her a bit."

Deanna - beautiful, mysterious woman of unknown age, most guess she is in her mid 20s.
Sample:(Angry)"I've told you already, I can't tell you about my mother! You'd best stay away from matters you don't understand."

Chad Willoughsby - 60 year old retired oil magnate.
Sample: "Well, I was born and raised here, and even as children we've been hearing some mighty spooky things about that old mansion."

Elizabeth Willoughsby - 58 year old wife of Chad. Very snobbish.
Sample: (Irritated)"Yes, yes yes. Those two were here asking almost as many questions as you. Now if that is all..."

Mitch Marshall - 22 year old cyber geek.
Sample: "Hey old buddy! How'd that case in London go? What was it this time? Oh yeah, that whole Werewolf terrorising the students thing?"

Chris Malvoi - 18 year old shop clerk.
Sample: (Nervous)"I didn't see them. They were definitely not at the store."

Thanks in advance.

My turn to post a help request! Dun dun dun!

I started working on a game, Jivotat na edin Zubar, which is about a Bulgarian schoolkid. As it's going to be all in Bulgarian, the only way anyone here can help me is with pixel art. I can do only FF-style sprites, which are unsuitable for this type of game, so I need a sprite and background artist. If you're interested, either send me a pic of a classroom by PM, or a walking sprite/a face pic of a kid with glasses, you know, the alien-type. I'd be very happy if someone can help me.

Etcher Squared Games

I need artists and musicians...

I have several games ideas in mind, so if you would like work beyond my current game idea, I could give you stuff to do.

Current game:
It's another "trapped in room" game, with a "small" twist.

In the main game there's just 1 background, a couple of icons, about 20 objects, 1 main character.

In the intro I'll need like 3 more backgrounds and 4 more characters and a few animations.

As for music, I don't need much just something to keep the player entertained while watching the intro and playing the game.

(this is only my 2nd game so I'm keeping it simple in the mean time)

Hello everyone.

I am currently putting Ravensmere on hold for a while because I can no longer use my 3D software, so, for the time being, I'm remaking the Magic Knight series by Mastertronic as point and click adventures.
I suck at character animation, though, so I wonder if anybody out there can help me with this.

What I'm looking for is a comic book style character based on Magic Knight (this guy in the oversized helmet)

I would really appreciate any help in this, as I have wanted to do this for a very long time.

Due to a modem problem I can't really get online as often as I want, but you can PM me or send me an email if you are interested.

thanks a lot,
darcness

Hello fellas,
sorry for disturbing you but i need your help!!!
I need a character draft for a Pilot who is lost in the arktis.
It should be like the "private pilot cool rayban guy"
A mix between Nicolas Cage (the Rock) and Kurt Russel (in SnakeEyes)
It whould be great if some of you guys could make me a face draft of such a guy.
I would like to model it in 3D so i need a front and side view of this freak.
This character should be the main actor in my upcoming game where this guy should bring stuff to an exploration team and get lost in the unlimted ice of the arktis.
i only need outlines of a cool guy i think that the rest i could imagine ;-)
i hobe that someone has the time to help me out of this "black hole of ideas".

THX a lot
