Hello, I downloaded AGS last month, and I was learning how to use it, when an error message appeared when I double-clicked (on the View pane) on the first Frame of the Loop 0(down) [I started with the Default Template], showing this message:

We're sorry, the AGS editor has encountered a serious error and must shut down. You will have lost any changes mada since you last saved your game.

(Exception 0xC0000005 at EIP=0x016D249E, AGSE v2.62.509)

Please note down the numbers above, and what you were doing when this error ocurred. If it happens repeatedly, please inform CJ of this error by visiting the AGS Technical forum and providing any information that you can.

If somebody can help me with that I thank so much.

Sorry if my English is too bad but I speak SpanishÃ,  :).
Also I need to say that this is the first time I post in a forum so if I have broken with this message any rule :(, please let me know.
¿I had to post ALL the message or with the numbers is enough? Because in the rules says i must post the ENTIRE message.

Another question: What is "l33tsp34k"?. In the Forum's rules says that we must not use it but I don't know what is it.
Thanks

Goot

I don't know what l33tsp34k is either but I don't think you'll use it if you don't know what it is.   ;)

As for your problem, it could possible be a bug in AGS. It also might have something to do with it not being able to display the sprites to choose from, so if you've done any deleating of sprites of something that might cause that to screw up, that might be the problem. Try going back into your game and seeing if it happens again. If it doesn't, I guess you should just forget about it and consider it a one-time thing. It it keeps happening, this is probably a question for CJ.

I think you can just "Please note down the numbers above, and what you were doing when this error ocurred."

CJ. the author of AGS can use the numbers to know which part of the AGS programing was running when the problem occured.  The explanation of what you were doing helps to know why the problem may have occured and is important.

I think some people try to be cute or lazy and instead of typing "for you" they would type "4U" instead.   So this "l33tsp34k" is an extreme example of that and the reason for the rule is than no-one knows what it means.

In addition to what Goot said you may have a corrupted game file or may have accidentally deleted a required file from the game directory.  Try doing what Goot suggests.  Start over if necessary.   It's always a good idea to backup the files in the game directory often.  I use Winzip to save a copy of all the files in the game directory.  That way if I ever have a problem like this I can recover nearly all of my work.

Let us know how it turns out for you and if you are still having problems.

If you have indeed deleted a sprite that was in use (placed as a frame in a view loop) and you know which number that sprite had, you can right-click another sprite and change its number to that of the missing one with "Change sprite number...".

snowzone

OK thanks to all.

I only had that problem twice. When the editor closed for first time, I opened it again. Then I did the same: go to the Views pane, and double-click on the first frame. It closed again. So I decided to continue the next day. The next day I did the same and all worked fine.

I don't think I have deleted a sprite because I was not using my own sprites at that moment, just the ones that comes with the Default template.

Other question: If I make a game and I post it here, I need to say or do something about the paint program or other programs I have used?

Thanks to all

PD: The AGSers Wolrd Map does not work. Is that a problem of my computer or is it all right? :)

Of course not. But if the game/graphics is any good, someone will ask anyway. :)

Hmm, were you just using the Default Game template? Which view were you looking at? Did the frame you double-clicked on have a sprite already set for it, or was it the "New Frame" tag?

snowzone

Hello again

Yes, I was using the Default Template and I was looking at View1. The frame I double-clicked had a sprite of my own, but the message appeared after I restored the original sprite. So when it appeared, the frame had the original sprite.

Pumaman

So you changed the frame to your own sprite, then changed it back, and when you then tried to change it again it crashed?

Strange, have you had the problem again since then, or has it only happened the once?

snowzone

Hello

Yes it's like you say. I didn't try to change it again just after I got it back to original.
I mean that I changed it, got it back to original, did antoher thing like dialogues (I don't remember exactly what), closed the program and other day when I tried to change it again, it crashed.
Then I opened the editor again and it crashed again, so I went to do another thing and when another day I tried to do it again, it worked.
But the other day it happened again (only one time). When I tried to do it again, it worked.
