Can someone help me name this adventure?

I've happened to come across several writings about what you should and shouldn't do in adventure games. That made me remember some illogical stuff in one adventure game I once played, but I can't remember what the game was exactly! Here's what I remember: during the game you pick up three sticks of wood (or maybe staff would be more appropriate) which all have roughly the same appearance. The bad part about this is that you can have all the sticks in your inventory at the same time, but they are all used for completely different things and are not interchangeable, for no apparent reason. I think one of the sticks either used to be or was used as a handle for an axe or shovel or something. And this has nothing to do with getting three sticks for the rite of AshKente in Discworld 2.

I think I recall using a stick to get an axe in one of the newer King's Quest games... (mask of eternity I believe, but I'm not completely sure)  I dont remember too well, sorry if I can't be more of a help

Edit: Sorry, your right about Kings Quest.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis? There was a part near the end where you had 3 "staff" type things that looked alike. I still tell the difference though...

While I am not sure about the original question, the axe in Mask of Eternity you get from the water mill and it's fully constructed when you get it...and I don't think you get any sticks in that game

Nope, nobody seems to have hit the mark so far. The staffs were all completely wooden. I think it might have been one of the first two Discworld games (just not the crocket mallet handles).
