Now, I'm pretty new here, but I have seen games that are "fangames." Such as Indiana Jones, and then there are some recreated Kings Quest games. even a Supergirl game, so on so forth.

Makes me wonder, has anyone was ever attempted to make a Gabriel Knight fan game?

Did anybody ever want to make one? Is there one out there already?

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Nah. I gave it considerable thought, but when I e-mailed Jane Jensen she made it pretty clear - she doesn't like fangames because it's, in a nutshell, other people using the characters the author created and labored hard on. She wouldn't like to see Gabriel or Grace so used, and she herself might not be finished with Gabe (a "who knows" situation, don'cha know. I think she *is*, but I hope to be proven wrong). Plus, Vivendi holds the copyright. Heh, even if she HERSELF wanted to so much as write the GK3 novelisaztion (or just write a GK book) she'd have to ask Vivendi for permission.

So no, there ain't and probably there'll never be.

Never thought of it that way, but it's a very good point. Any Schattenjagery plots can easily be changed and altered to something more original.

As for the Gaby King game, yes, I played it. Very cute. ;-)

Shadowplay (and its sequels) will have a very GK-like plot, gameplay and interface although it doesn't use any of the GK characters or mythology.

I suggest you get the first one done before thinking about that! ;)

Heh, good point - better not get too much ahead of myself. But I DO enjoy working on several game designs at a time. That way, if a certain puzzle concept is awesome but  just doesn't fit into the story of one game, it might work in one of the others. That makes it easier to "kill you're babies", because you're not actually killing them, just adopting them to another game :)

Let me bring this topic back to the top as I have a "Gabriel Knight" related question and don't want to open a new post.

I know there was a "Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned" post mortem on the internet some years ago.
In this document the producers of the game talked about the development process and what went right/wrong during the production.

However, I can't find it anymore on the www. So does anyone of you by chance have it, or knows where I can find it?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

That post mortem, like most others, is on gamasutra.
www.gamasutra.com then search for "gabriel knight post mortem". :=
You need to register to read it.
