Do what I did: get made redundant, getting a £20k tax free payoff in the process, and then start a new job on the same salary at a different company the week after you leave.

That worked out pretty well, that's almost $48k AUS, you could do a lot with that, put it towards mortgage, new family car, etc but you'll have to use some of it on a holiday of somekind.

That's great luck (and probably a good resume), at least it would have kept you going for a while if you couldn't find a job straight away. I guess it was a scary little period with a happy outcome. Well done
