I've recently signed up with sitesled, and, to be honest, I don't know much about web design in general.  However, I managed to sketch, scan, and color until I got this:

Now, I'm experimenting with that "Tiki Man's" art style - the shading, proportions, all that.  Therefore, as I continue work on this, I'd appreciate some C & C to help keep me on the right path.   Especially his left foot, around the heel.  That's been a rather large headache for me.

Obviously, the uncolored bits are the unfinished bits, and the boxes and such will be links.  Besides graphical C & C, perhaps somebody could give advice on the placing of these links and text?  It seems a bit jumbled to me, but that may be unavoidable.

Perhaps I was wrong in submitting this before it was finished, but I currently don't see the error in doing so.  Regardless - thanks in advance!  I really do need some help here!

Well to pull this off you're gonna need to learn how to image-map. I don't think it's too hard, though what do I know, I've never tried it.

Secondly your font is a bit hard to read, and I wouldn't reccomend using a font like that for a website, as not all PCs have that font.

Well that's all for now. Good work, Tiki.

I love the art style, and the layout works for me, but like Zor the font isn't quite so great when it comes to compatability.

As for image maps they are pretty damn easy, as long as you have an OK knowledge of HTML, what i would recomend is this site http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/96/40/index2a.html?tw=authoring for learning how to do it (if I were you i would opt for client side image map, and prety much copy theirs, changing what needs to be changed) And on a final scripting not... for gods sake script it all by hand, never EVER use something like dreamweaver or front page!

Otherwise thats great, muck more interesting than your run of the mill site design! - Rich
Seeing as I really shouldn't have to get up at such an ungodly hour as 7am, ill put my watch forward by 5 hours to make me feel better...

The font is nice for a title, I suggest you find something less... fancy for the content.
As for the layout, the menu seems too secondary, not enough focuse on it.
You could try moving the 'news' part down a bit (so it's below the leg), and replacing it with a menu.

Just my two cents, it's pretty nice overall.
And image-mapping is pretty much redundant, it can be done just as easily by cutting the picture to different segments and using tables to align them correctly.

Thanks for your comments!   I've obliged to most by now, but I'm still working.

Changes: Image Mapping (wee!),  more colored bits, broken links (wee!), and a somewhat better font, though I'll probably switch to Times New Roman next update.  I went with client side image maps, as far as I can tell.  I'm still testing the water with that.  :P

Anyways, I'll keep chugging along.  I'll update with more progress later.

I'm loving this!

Except the font change is too drastic IMO.

Yes, and the "June 2...First Update" is a little pale and hard to read.
