I just saw Minority Report for the first time on tv and I had to leave the room at a couple of points so I missed something, and it's really bugging me! I tried looking for full synopsis but couldn't find any...

Can someone who's seen this film tell me what happened to John's son? I left the room as Agatha started talking to John and his wife in their son's room, and I came back as she was finishing up, and they were crying, and ... now I don't know what she said! o_o

Mr Jake

He got abucted at a public swimming baths.  It hasn't really got anything to do with the story as far as I remember. Other than the guy using it to set him up.

Kinoko

Well, I know he was abducted, they showed that bit elsehwere in the movie. But I got the impression Agatha said something to John and his wife telling them what happened to their son. Why were they crying and talking about how much they missed him? Just seemed to me like they found out he was either dead or still alive or... I don't know.

No, HS is right. He was abducted at the pool and never found. So he was presumed dead. But HS was also wrong, it's quite integral to the plot as it is the reason John joined up pre crime and is also the catalyst to losing his wife and his drug addiction.

They're crying because it's something people do when they lose a child. Assuming you've never had children (I gathered that from your protection post) you wouldn't really understand the great emotional attachment parents have to their children. Granted, I don't know either, but I do know it's kind-of a big deal to alot of people.

They are also crying mostly because it's been an unspoken tragedy between them for years and it caused them to become distant from eachother in the first place and they are finally coming to terms with it...

John really loved his wife and son. You can tell that when he watches the holo-films.

Or something like that.
You. Me. Denny's.

Mr Jake

Oh, yeah, there is that. Buy explaining John's life ish ardly important to the plot! (Okay, I forgot about all that ¬¬).

Didn't Agatha tell them what happened to their son at some point also? I can't really remember.

LGM

Nope, no-one knows. THAT is the part that is hardly important. It doesn't matter WHAT happened to him after he was abducted, it's just that he was gone.

It'd probably be worse for the film to know what happened.

Agatha tells them what their son's life would have been like if he had not been abducted.

Ah, yes. That was it.

Nacho

I used to like Steven Spielberg movies... But since Jurassic Park I just can remember in "Catch me if you can" as a good title. The others are intriguing, like IA and Minority... but I wouldn't say I like them. Is happening the same to anybody else?
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Darth Mandarb

But Farlander ... Saving Private Ryan??

But Farlander ... Saving Private Ryan??

Woooha! I knew I was forgetting something... Band of brothers was good too!

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

...so no one else enjoyed "Airport Terminal", or whatever it's original title way?
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Kneel. Now.

Never throw chicken at a Leprechaun.

Privateer Puddin'

that was just 'Terminal' here, i enjoyed it.. maybe the idea more than the movie itself though?

Helm

I thought both the idea and the execution - although definately spielbergy-fairytailish - were good. AI was very weak, though.
WINTERKILL

LGM

AI was probably the weakest Speilberg film, probably because Kubrick died during production. But the others are so memorable, I wouldn't hesitate to label him as one of the best at his craft.

I mean.. Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, Catch Me If You Can, etc. one after the other just magnificent.

He's also produced and written some great movies. Poltergeist, Goonies and others. But we all know he basically directed Poltergeist and Tobe Hooper was just there to claim the title.

But I am way off topic here.. MINORITY REPORT WAS ALSO FAIRLY GOOD
You. Me. Denny's.

BerserkerTails

Duel, Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, he just has way too many to list. I was a bit disappointed with both AI and Minority Report, but they weren't bad movies. I am, however, very excited for War of the Worlds...
I make music.

Darth Mandarb

I didn't like AI ... but I think I only didn't like it 'cause it was directed by Spielberg, but didn't have his 'taste' to it.  It was definitely a Kubric movie.  I think, had it been directed by anybody else, I might not have been as disappointed in it.

I actually really liked Minority Report.

Spielberg is, no matter how trendy it is to say it, on the top of my "favorite directors" list.

He's got a remarkable ability to bring great performances out of mediocre actors (think Vin Diesel in Saving Private Ryan).

He also has such a definite style ... I can see a movie of his and just tell it's his.  Even if nobody told me it was directed by Spielberg, I'd just know.

Hook is one of my favorite movies of all time.  I love the 'feel' of the movie.  The scene where Peter Banning enters the old room and is hit by a wave of sensations ... and you can hear the ocean breeze and the seagulls and the music ... it's such a strong scene I can almost smell the ocean ...

The color wash (if that's the correct term) on Minority Report is great.  It works so well, and the 'world' created is so believable, that you almost don't notice how washed out the colors are.  I remember finding a loop-hole in the logic of the movie ... but I'd have to watch it again to remember what it was/is ...

Blackthorne

I enjoyed Minority Report.  Interesting concepts.  What freaked me out the most was the "prison" they put the pre-crime offenders in.

The script will give great insight into the themes in the film.  It also includes some deleted scenes.

Redwall: THANKYOU. God, that was all I was after. I just didn't know what she said to them, I thought she might have told them she could sense he was dead or still alive. For those of you who said "He was abducted, that's what happened to him", you do realise that people don't just disappear into thin air after they go missing. I mean, he was either killed, tortured, brought up as someone else's son, thrown in a river, used as a sex toy, let loose somewhere, escaped... a zillion things could have happened and they OBVIOUSLY wanted to know what. Given the emotion at the end of that scene, I thought they found out.

lgm, get that big ol' stick of righteousness out of your arse. I think anyone with a brain could tell they weren't just crying because they were suddenly for no reason whatsoever struck with the motivation to think about their son. Anyone with a brain could tell I wasn't questioning how people could cry over the loss of a child. I was asking what Agatha had said to them during that scene.

Well I wasn't sure how much you missed.

Gosh, am I an asshole or what?

Edit: I guess I read your post too fast.. But I saw that you asked what happened to John, so I explained that and not what she said. My bad.

Also, I kindof knew you would know about the whole losing a child thing. I was just a bit over-sarcastic there.
