How do you get icecream at night?

My boyfriend has gone interstate for 3 days, and so I have the house to myself. The noodles I bought to sustain myself during this period tasted like crap so I threw them away. I don't so much care about dinner, but now I want icecream. I'm left with the question, "How do I GET icecream?".

The best I can come up with is ordering a pizza from Pizza Hut just to get their icecreams. I could walk down to the nearest shopping centre but I don't know when it's closing time is (it could be in half an hour) and that means walking 25 minutes each way carrying icecream. Seems a bit silly, but it would be cheaper. Then again, I'd have to walk. Hmm.

You can see my predicament.

In order not to waste this thread, let me ask you. Do you get stupid irrational cravings at times like this?

PsychicHeart

you have no idea how tempted you are to call your mates mobile phone on the school bus when we aren't allowed to bring mobiles at our school. :D

Pff, mobile phones. They pale like an ant's toe to the sun in comparison to icecream.

I also think bringing mobile phones to school is stupid and should be banned ^_^ School is a place for icecream, not over-hyped technology.

PsychicHeart

wait, i'm getting a brainwave........ icecream flaveoured mobile phones..... or the other way around. :P

But, Kinoko, how else are kids going to tell their parents to come and pick them up in their SUVs?  ;)

I get cravings to play Civilisation, but thats about it...

Do you have petrol stations in Queensland?

My main nocturnal craving, of a gastronomic nature, is for Turkish pizza.

Co-incidently, it's these establishments that are open until 5 am.

Occasionally I think of something and want to find out more about it, but Wikipedia is unavailable...

The petrol  station's just as far away as the shopping centre. I'm think I'm a-gon order pizza later. It's expensive, but it'll do me for 2 nights dinner.

Regardless of dictionary meaning, you don't say, "I have a craving to kill the teletubbies".

On a regular basis I crave ice cream.  The only solution is during my lunch hour at school to nip out to Tescos, or find a Local Shop/newsagents.  They generally have a little ice cream freezer.  However, at night I sleep, and only wake up with bizzare cavings for KFC.

You could, however, say "I crave the death of the Teletubbies". And I think I will...

I crave the death of the Teletubbies. And will pay 99 euros* to anyone who'll oblige.

How do I get Ice-Cream - or satisfy any other snack-food craving - in the middle of the night? Three words: 24 hour opening. There's a 24 hour supermarket within easy walking distance of my house - is there not one near you? Mightn't do you any good for tonight, but if you can scout one out during the day, you'll be set for tomorrow. Failing that, before the Tesco went 24 hour a friend & I would call taxis in the wee small hours to take us to the 24 garage three quarter of a mile away, to buy snacks. I think the fare was usually more than the snacks, but worth it every time, and still probably cheaper than ordering pizza just for the ice cream (which, in fairness, we also did once).

* Possibly more, depending on exchange rate.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Kinoko

Well, I ordered pizza. It's gonna take 3 quarters of an hour, it's hideously expensive, but it's kind of fun because I've never ordered pizza when I've been by myself.

So much for saving money. Meh.

You do know that despite your best intentions to leave some pizza for tomorrow, you are going to eat the whole thing AND the icecream, too  :=

my contribution to this thread is to point out that as soon as I read 'ice cream cravings' I went to the fridge and took out a Carte D'or banana chocolate icecream. It is gone, now.

Now that's smart! Having three flavours of ice cream at your fridge at all times just eliminates the need for expensivve 24h shops. So, Kinoko, next time you go shopping, buy as MUCH everything as you can carry home. Then deep-freeze all that. Now, when you wake up at 3am with a sudden urge to eat mozzarella pizza, you don't have to wait those tiresome 45 minutes! Just open your fridge!

That does, however, need a certain skill of buying more than you immediately need. That can be hard.

Another possibility would be to _stop_ eating ice cream and other sugary, fatty foods. Spend a couple of months eating just carrots and rye bread and you would even THINK of wanting ice cream in the middle of the night. It just works.

Pff, I don't want advice on how to not want icecream and eat like a wuss :P Anyway, I'm eating icecream right now. Yum! I haven't had it in aaaaaaages.

Re: the pizza - I ate 2 slices and the rest is wrapped up in the fridge ^_^

Helm - I'm happy to have helped!

I sometimes have the unexplainable desire for soft-boiled eggs and sugar, and since our home is rarely stocked with anything other than microwaveable tacos, and because I live in a very rural area of Texas, I go over to the nearest chicken-coop and leave a dime for every egg I take which, considering the going rate of a carton of eggs in the U.S.A, is very fair.
