 ???I need a way to convert a .mov file into a .avi file is this even possible?

It's possible, but it's not very easy. Well, the converting is, but there's hardly any free utils to do this, i think. I pull it through Adobe After Effects, it handles everything.

I know that QuickTime Pro can do it too, you just need to open the .mov in the QT player and export it, or something like that...
