Then don't make it 50 years.  Make it a shorter amount of time.

I used futureme once.  I was procrastinating heavily with a research paper, and sent an email to myself for a week later to see if I had done it.

Naturally, I hadn't.

Actually it just doesn't send the email until the date you specify.  There are loads of people who will still be using the same email address 50 years from now.  And with as much space as Google is offering, I don't see myself jumping up and running away from my Gmail account.  I'll definitely still be using it in 16 years.  I'll have to make sure of that...because that email I sent myself is important.

Oh, no doubt you would still use Gmail in 16 years. But will Gmail exist as we know it in 16 years? How bout 5? There's no way you can determine what will happen. But meh, I was a bit overzealous there.
