Walk-to point disappears when saving game

Hi,

I'm an absolutly bloody beginner and I started using AGS following the tutorial step by step and got my first problem i can't find an answer for:

In part 3 of the tutorial I define a walk-to point. After definition, I wantetd to test it. I first saved the room, what was working well. Then I saved the game. When my machine finishes this I can watch the walk-to point disappearing out of the scene in the Room Editors Area Section. And while testing, the point truely is not working.
Besides: I defined it properly within a walkable area.

Does anybody know why this is?

Sorry for posting the second thread within one hour. But since I'm playing around with my Walk-to prob, I noticed another mysterious thing with it:

When I defined a walk-to point, I first can see it where I put it. But then, when I click somewhere else on the screen and start moving the mouse over the image with the point-def. (not clicking anymore!), it suddenly disappears!!! But it is not deleted though. When I save everything again and test the game the character seems to be running to a point outside the image.

Is there anything known about this issue?

I maybe got the solution, why the character was doing nothing: I tried to move it while it was watching at my hotspot and therefore I checked the second option on the general settings.

I've experienced the same problem with one specific walk-to point in a scrolling room. It doesn't dissapear, it just repositions in some random corner of the screen. Very strange...

Please, don't double (or triple) post. Edit your first post. This is one of the many rules on these forums. :)

Actually, he made two posts, and I merged them since there was no reason to not continue this thread, and yes, the modify/edit button works wonders, as it will give your thread the "new" title once again.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Thanks, you guys are REALLY helping me and largopredator out with our problem!!!!!

I wonder what is worse: Opening two threads on the same PROBLEM or holding on an off-topic discussion with gigs of typing and leading your own rules ad absurdum.

It looked like you  had solved your problem, and never updated us with whether it was the solution or not.

As for your problems, that shouldn't happen. Ever. So we're really stumped as to what could be going wrong. If this continues, I'd say report it to Chris Jones (Pumaman), because it could very well be a bug.

I never use walk-to points anymore. I put my own walk-to point in the 'properties', so that way I get walk-to points for hotspots, objects, and characters. I also put a face-to direction, so the character will face the right direction after walking to the walk-to point.

@TerranRich: You see, this is why I opened a second thread ;) . My "maybe-solution" was just a part of the whole thing. Is it possible to forward this thread to Chris or do I have to write it all again? (And have it all redundant :) )

@all: I guess I found out, that it only happens if the usage of the "set walk-to point" button was the latest action. At the moment, I work around the prob by selecting a hotspot colour I don't use.

@Geoffkhan: Thanks for the tip. I came to this possibility as well while playing around and going further in the tutorial. But I think, since the walk-to point option is available, I would rather love it if it works! :)

@TerranRich: Since obviously nobody knows why this happens, I really would like to forward this thread to pumaman for I guess this prob is a bug. Please could you tell me, how to forward it or can you manage it for me?
Pumaman has understandably hidden his eMail-Addy.

Thanks!

I have tried to replicate this without any luck. What AGS version are you using?

Bear in mind that the "Set walk-to point" button enables the Walk-to Point setting, and so if you click twice it will get moved twice.

antineff

I'm using the latest official Version 2.7 (not a Beta). Since the walk-to points are not always behaving in the same manner, I understand that it might be difficult to replicate the prob. Of course I know, that clicking somewhere else on the background image SHOULD move the walk-to point to the new clicked on place.

So I try to describe step by step how I replicate the strange behaviour:

- click on the "Setwalk-to point" button

- set the walk-to point somewhere on the background image.

(- now moving the mouse cursor without clicking, normally nothing strange happens)

- now click somewhere on the screen (not on the background image, maybe into the Game-Editor window or on the grey Options area above the background) The Point still is there.

- now move the mouse cursor over the screen without clicking. Somehow suddenly the point disappears. Well it seems, that it does not really disappear but is located somewhere else. At the moment while I'm writing this and switching between the browser and AGS the point appears on another place on the background. And it seems, that only the walk-to point of the active hotspot is affected.

Hope this helps.

I've just been having a play with this and it seems that it does indeed move the walk-to point if you Alt+Tab back into AGS from another application. I'll look into it further.

AGS v2.71 Beta 6:
* Fixed walk-to point getting randomly moved if you alt+tabbed back into AGS from another application.
