I posted an early version of this sprite before, so it might look familiar.  Either the other post is gone or I overlooked it... at anyrate...  Both B&W and Color versions will be used, so crits, comments, etc on both is appreciated.  Animating these is gonna be suck.....

:o Those look awesome! For some reason he reminds me of the dopefish from Commander Keen.

I think it's great but I think his eyes are maybe too big and you should add a mouth to him too, because IF you are planning to put him in a game and you want to make a talking animation for him, then it would be better if he has a mouth already.

Excellent.  Very clean and well-formed.

If I get picky about it, the diagonal-forward view looks a bit fish-eyed compared to the rest.  The size/shape seems similar to the others but somehow looks less natural and more a blank, fish-like stare.  The robe's trail seems too long in the side view, as compared to the diagonals.  It's not a severe enough perspective/rotation to change diminished length so drastically.

It shouldn't be harder than many characters to animate, at least you've got vibrant colors and clean lines to work with.  Depending upon your program, you might try something like photoshop to separate his bits onto layers so you can tweak them separately from his body.  If you're working with free programs (this could've been done in ms-paint..  if so, double the admiration), several free alternatives exist.

Splendid job on keeping personality and consistency throughout the rotation.  I can almost envision it as a freely-rotatable 3D character.

Thanks for the crits.  I am not going to add mouths, none of the characters will have them, and talking animations will handled differently, got that figured out already :)  The side view was the original, and I like the long robe, but now that you mention it, and the more I look at it, it does seem too long for my taste now even taking the diagonals into account.  And I totally know what you mean on the fish-eye thing.  This is my first time doing a diagonal sprite and I really don't like how the head looks on either.  If anyone has a nice picture reference for a similar size cartoony character in different perspectives, I would appreciate it.
