Well i guess someone had to start a thread.

I would like to say that i absolutely love this game to pieces, I've just finished it and i have that same warm feeling you get after a special movie. It's amazing how much work and detail went into this game, I'm going to have to play through it at least two more times to get alternate routes/endings.

And about the sex? I know there's some difference between NSTC and PAL versions of the game but playing pal myself i was quite surprised at how intimate the sex was. I appreciated that the sex did add to the game in the same way a passionate scene of intercourse adds to a film, and i was pleasantly relieved when they resisted adding cheesy mini-games into these scenes.

Simply an awesome game, i could really feel for the characters and just didn't want it to end. Interface was great, story was great and voice acting and graphics were great. Like playing a classic adventure game in 3D. Excellent.

But... they did have a cheesy mini game!

Wow. I've been out of the gaming loop for a few months now (well, longer, actually), but I've got to get back into it. This looks positively amazing. I"m at work and can't check out too much into it without possibly getting caught. What's the premise of the game? What's it all about? :)
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

It's like a modern day dective movie. You play the main characters (starting with Lucas, the murderer) and as Lucas you have to find out what compelled you to carve double headed snakes into your forarms and then kill a man. As the Detectives you have to find out who murdered the man and why it was such a random event.

The plot is thick, there's so many directions it can go in depending on your actions. Everything seems to link together, it's possibly one of my favorite games, right next to broken sword.

Fahrenheit is just simply amazing, it's like nothing I played before.
Though the graphics aren't the newest around it doesn't really matter, the way the game plays is completely original or atleast to me that is.
Though I have only played the demo yet (and probably buy the game tomorrow) as far as I know it's about some guy named Lucas Kane, he kill(s) people in a kind of trance that he doesn't control, you need to help him get over this, and you also play as the 'good guys' that need to catch Kane, well that's what I can make out of the demo, though the demo is very small it's really re-playable since there are so many different way to do things, after playing it like four times I still found another way to do finish the demo.
(you beat me chicky, with a much better 'what it's about' thing ;), as I said I only played the demo)

Kweepa

I played the demo and was disgusted
- the control system seemed to be novel for the sake of it
   - why should I have to move the mouse in time to a bouncing dot just to open a tap or pick up a mop?
   - what's wrong with a button click?
- the motivation of the player character annoyed me
   - I was happy he didn't get away with covering up the murder -- how selfish can you get?
   - in real life, he's probably crazy and should be locked up

Still, on the positive side
- the graphics were pretty and the engine seemed to be good
- I loved the game director's animated introduction

Maybe I should give it another try.

You play the game sometimes as the guy who commited the murder, Lucas, and sometimes as the police team who are trying to catch him, so I don't think it really matters if you'd prefer him not to get away with it (Lucas also thinks he might be crazy, his goal in the start of the game is to find out what happened before turning himself in).  The interface is the way it is I think, due to it being first and foremost a console game, however everyone who has played the full game, including me, seems to have gotten used to it and weren't bothered by that, actually it works very well in some situations.  Even Helm who I didn't think would like the game is enjoying it (just didn't seem something he'd like).
This game is cheesy, actually fairly restrictive and has button mashing "action" sequences, but it's still a very good game :) I recommend it to everyone.

Pelican

I was concerned about the action sequences in this game, but strangely they didn't bother me. However, if you're gonna buy the game, you might want to invest in a gamepad, or get it for a console if you have one. The action sequences mostly consist of pushing the two analog sticks in various directions, and there's occassionally some button bashing. It may sound off-putting, but I actually found it did help immerse you in the game more. The movements used for actions are meant to simulate the movements you'd make carrying out those actions, and in the action sequences the directions often correspond to dodges or blocks to that direction. Seriously though, the action sequences may sound daunting to a traditonal adventure gamer, but they really aren't that bad.

At any rate, its not billing itself as an adventure game (though it has some adventure elements), more an interactive movie, and in that respect I think it does pretty well. The story is pretty good, and paced well, though some bits are a little off:
Spoiler
After chasing him relentlessly fo half the game, Carla quite easily jumps over to Lucas' side. And after hardly knowing him any length of time, declares she's in love with him and jumps into bed with himÃ,  ::)

Other than those points its a pretty good story, and I'm glad I got the game.

As to my opinion on the game, I enjoyed it very much.
I definitely wouldn't classify it as an adventure game, but, like Pelican said, an interactive movie, not much unlike Dragon's Lair.

Snarky

It's a good game. Also, it's possibly an adventure game. It's kind of hard to tell.

The point of the control scheme is that you're mimicking the movements your character is performing. So in order to mop the floor, you move the mouse back and forwards. It's very much a direct-control way of doing things. You could call it a gesture-based interface. Besides, it works better with a gamepad controller, where you're moving the joystick instead of the mouse.

Though I have some complaints about the game, they're mostly about stupid stuff like non-skippable cutscenes and a clumsy save system. The actual substance of the game is really quite neat.

I understand that. Unfortunately it's not obvious what movement is necessary at any time so I have to keep referring to the little dot rather than concentrating on the 3d view. For a lot of actions it waits until it's recognised it, then cuts away and performs the action, so there's a delay.
If it was first person and there was a mop in front of me and moving the control stick moved the mop around, I'd call that direct-control.

Just played through demo few times... some thoughts:

* Control is mega clumsy, yet interesting in it's own way
* Rockstar'ishy simple 3D really rocks. At present day, it's quite nice to get a new game that doesn't need my 2Ghz system doubled to run fine. For example, F.E.A.R. was everything but playable, yet I met all minimal requirements (plus bit more), and I still haven't figured out what forces game developers to make so overteched & unplayable games. Lack of content?
* 380 megs of demo featured awfully little of gameplay. I remember Half-Life 1 demo years ago, which was totally different from full version and took many hours to complete... *sob*
* The game reminded Max Payne 2 very much, even the music
* Game developers *still* love to overuse video noise filter and DX9 glow-thingies  :P
* 2005 is a really good gaming year. What all good has been released!
* ---
* I'm SO getting the full version!

That's what i was thinking Jake, the ending made me happy. It's what i wanted to happen! (maybe without seeing the sex mind you)

Nikolas

It seems amazing!

Well and now, I'm going to sound SO old. I will wait for a while, until the price goes down to 5-10 euro and then I'll buy it. I don't see any reason of buying it now. I've gone past that point of wanting everything that comes out immediatly!

Fair enough, but,
Spoiler
call me cynical, but I think three weeks is a bit short a time to fall in love with someone. And yes, I can see why they might want to take comfort from each other (in this case, sex), when faced with the possibility that the world might end the next day, but love? I think it just seems a little abrupt because they don't really touch on what has happened in those three weeks. And her ending up pregnant? Isn't he meant to be dead? I really don't want to know what the sprog ends up like...Ã,  :o

Never heard of this as I never really pay much attention to modern games, but I just played the demo, and looks to be a game I'd like.

I've only bought 2 modern games, Broken Sword 3 (awesome) and Larry: Magna Cum Laude (only for the sake of it and to see if I could get a copy in Aus since it was banned here)

actually I also bought the 2 CSI games a couple of years ago and still haven't got around to playing either

I'll probably buy it at some stage

FruitTree

sorry for kicking up an old threat.
but I bought fahrenheit yesterday and finished the game in one sitting, all in all it's an awesome game, and plotflaws are easily forgiven because the way the story's told.
it's nice to see how much fun quantic dream was having creating the game!
the characters are kickass!
the story's really cool (I like the first part off the story best)
the interface really helps the story instead of buggin it
only thing that bugs me is this, I bought ALL the bonus features and I still have 135 bonus points left... WHY?! :P
