Question about recruiting people as a newbie...

So, here's the deal. I have an idea for a game.
Yes, it's just an idea, and there's a good chance it'll never even be fully written down.
The concept is a person who get stranded on an island (nothing original there). Ze* wakes up on the beach dehydrated and with strange insect bites all over hir body. Ze gets up and sets up a camp since ze'll probably be rescued in the matter of days and ze has some basic skills in survival. Problem is, those insect bites that seemed harmless turn out to be much more dangerous than ze thought. Something ze doesn't realize before it's way too late, and the venom and pain slowly drives her mad.

Now, this topic is NOT about showing off my idea or anything.. so don't move it or delete it, I just felt I had to explain all that before moving on to the real question.

The game is supposed to start out with somewhat real-looking artwork, and as the game progresses and becomes more insane and surreal, so will the artwork, until it follows very little logic (yes, I realize that puzzles will be a problem. But I'll find a way to deal with that hopefully). Problem is, I can't draw realistic stuff AT ALL, and obviously need help here.
I wouldn't need all that much. It's gonna be a short game, and I think I'm able to do the surreal graphics myself.

So what I'm asking is this: Do you think that if I write the entire plot and it sounds interesting, and design everything on paper, and ask for help on these boards, that someone will help me, even though I have no previous record of finished games, or will I HAVE to make a really ugly game first, just to prove I'm dedicated?

*I use gender neutral nouns so I don't have to write he/she all the time, besides, I might just decide to make the character asexual. As I said, the game is still just an idea.

You can always ask around in the special threads we have for this purpose, but yes, chances are people will not take you very seriously before you make a game of your own.

You could make a rough but playable version of the game using temporary art - and if people liked it, I don't think you'd have any problems at all finding a talented artist to help you finish it.

Yeah, I was considering that and it sounds like the best idea I suppose..
I still hate the thought of butchering my game idea with my own artwork.. >_<
Thanks though.  :)

This thread is to ask for help:

This is to see who offers help:

You have to consider a number of issues here.

You just joined in.  Do you know how to use AGS, or script? Do you write music and sound fx? Do you draw at all.

From my little experience here, there are people who offer to do all these things. For example I write music (though my hands are full right now...), but I'm sure that I can find somebody to draw my sprite (at least), or anything else I need, cause I have the idea ready. On the other hand, I know that a lot of people, just ain't creative enough to come up with their own ideas.

Hang around here for a while and then start asking around for help...

Cheers, and welcome :)

Thank you for the welcome. ^^

As I said, I'm far away from actually asking for help. I was merely asking if someone WOULD help me IF I asked when my project is closer to being a reality. :)

Why not use photos to start with? Check out http://www.sxc.hu/

And by the way, I really like the idea and have made an AGS game about insanity. It's quite difficult, getting the balance between insanity and normality right.

I think it's a good game idea, and considering that you can speak in full sentences, read people's replies and generally aren't an arse, I don't think you'd have that much trouble being taken seriously.  Lingering around a bit and making a game (MAGS?) would help too though.

IM NOT TEH SPAM

As long as you go about on the forums and not act like a moron, basically ;)

I'm not sure if I can help you, since I suck at computer artwork, and my brother does all presentable things for me, since he's board waiting for Realm Crafter to finish downloading...
Its 99% done, so you probably won't see any more art from me.  Ever.  :P

If there's anything else you need help with, and if it's in my power, give me a PM  :).
APPARENTLY IM ON A "TROLLING SPREE"

Minimi

I once made a text-adventure with similar story. "Albino Virus".

It was about a guy Matt, that got infected by touching a cat in the lab, with a dangerous unknown virus. He buried the cat, but got infected himself, and slowly turned into some monster, that controlled the will of Matt, to be violent. Then it's your turn to go find him, and take him out, or cure him ;) Still should make that in a point&click game though, because the story rocks, now that I think of it ;)

Thank you all for the replies.. they are really encouraging. In fact, I'll probably work some more on the story right now. ^^

And that story, cool as it sounds, doesn't really seem that similar to mine.. But anyway, what story haven't been told twice? :)

they didnt help me either  :'(
I'm all by myself

You could make a demo of what you can do, make a few screenshots, and post them on the GAME IN PROGRESS section of the forums. There, you could ask for volunteers to help you finish the game. It's been done before, with successful results, I might add. ;D
