Any & all comments & criticism would be appreciated on these two.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if anyone has a suggestion for a decent color for the guy's shirt (as if you notice right now it's the same as the girl's) then please tell me.

The girls stomach is sort of rounded. Makes her look slightly chubby in a weird way. Also, the guy's torso part seems a little flat. Maybe it's because both the arms have shadows on the inside, and it looks like they are projecting their shadows onto the torso. Plus, he's got a unibrow ;)

I like the girl, call it a paint-over:



I was thinking about Desert Eagle or a .44 gauge Magnum, but why not give her something more powerful like a double-barreled combat shotgun? ;)

In both cases the proportions are wrong (too short legs). Don't worry, just search the Tutorials thread for some guides -- there must be something.

I played around a bit and tried to stay true to the color scheme and general character design of the originals.
What I did:

1.  Removed artifacts.
2.  Made greater contrast between colors.
3.  Redrew bodies and adjusted poses.
4.  Raised height of characters for better proportions (could be made even better).

It is hard to really give input without knowing what you try to achieve. For a cartoony style, I think they work well. The main issue is, as mentioned, the legs. But these are your characters and should express what YOU wish them to express. And they currently have a very nice expression IMO.

Johnnys take shows nice tooned realism, but killed the characteristics. This is good when you use closeups or similar to show traits and expressions.

Progs took the toony traits and "Metal Slugged" them, making them slicker but a bad ass version of the characters you made. If your characters should be bad ass, then these are simply great.

Either way, note the use of contrast and colors

Thanks for the comments and the paintovers -- they're really nice, although ProgZ's were a little too extreme for my purposes. :) (Are those flintlock pistols?)

Unfortunately, I feel like I haven't really learned much from them (except for the proportions; good god, my sense of proportion is apparently terrible -- the legs look so long to me!). I think it's perhaps just my own artistic ineptitude; I'm pretty much just winging it with these things and hoping something decent comes out.

In any case, here's an update on the girl. . . I haven't had time to get to the guy yet. I tried to clarify her pose, messed with the shading, and made some new hair based on ProgZ's because I really liked his. (I actually liked Johnny's longer hair, too, but it doesn't fit the character.)

 

I'm pretty happy with her now, but I didn't want to leave you guys hanging. ;)

Looks nice. If I should pick on something, it'd be the left arm. The right is also a bit too long, but it's suitable. The left however is wider, and with the gun hanging, it simply looks very long. (This could also be a result of the legs being slightly short yet, but the legs look fine so I'd rather alter the arm a wee bit.) The gun is kind of lost against her leg. Raise it a wee bit, and make it a chrome glock perhaps? ;)
