was wondering if it would be posible to give the player a choice in which charactor to play as (Diablo style) like create a first room with the charactors in view they click on a hotspot over the chatacters and then when they start the game they are that character....

You ... just asked this. (OK, not exactly, but the same command applies.)

And you answered your own question:

That, or a GUI, along with what strazer told you is all you need to know.
