Ace_Gamer

here is the character i've draw. please tell me what you think.

Hi Ace_Gamer,

Nice start as a first character!

A few crits,

It seems like he will be falling on his back any second. I would try to draw the legs in a more stable way.

Then there is the famous black outline, although it's not too disturbing in your char, I suggest you'd replace them with dark versions of the inside colour. Seek tutorials for help with this.

Then a side note,
if you want to use this in a game, beware of the screen settings (320 x 240 for example). This person wouldn't fit in a resolution like that. For a starter game, I'd suggest low res, it's easier to draw animations and stuff.

I'm not very good at redrawing, so I'm just critting  ;D
Hope I've helped a little

I'd keep the outline, as the char is drawn in a comical style.

But give him a forehead, and flatten his shoe soles.
I'd lower the shoulders a tiny bit to fit the relaxed pose, atm it looks a bit like he's shrugging.

If you want to use him in a game, I have to second the low-res argument, just resize him to one half to one third and paint over it in another layer.

Ace_Gamer

actually i was thinking about using a 640x480 res. i find that this res looks better and is more modern.

as for the shoulders- mmm, i think i will lower em'

shoes- i flatten the soles- did'nt really think about that when i drew it.

when i drew the legs they were supposed to be like this:

Look like he needs to go realllly bad!Ã,  ;D

Ok heres a quick repaint +- five minutes the logo took me about 2 :)

I rotated him a little so he looks like hes upright. (Posture) Please no
more slacker quests!Ã,  :o
I wont moan about some porportions its cartoon..

Shaded the pocket cause his hand is in there but didnt detial him... like the feet the one behind should be
a little smaller. or at least same size.

I liked the shoes better the first version. Now they look more like dutch wooden shoes or something :P Just try to give him some heels, now it looks like he could tip over any minute ;D I also noticed that the shoe that is closest is smaller than the other. Unless his feet are abit weird i think you should fix this.

EDIT: Good job afflict. (the nearest shoe is still bigger than the other tho :P)

That is true in some cases, but not necessarily. Imo it's more difficult to create a good looking 640x480 than a 320x240. Higher resolution means more pixels need to be filled and what is shown can be shown with a lot more detail than in lo-res. If the graphics lack those details, it definitely shows and therefore don't look better and more modern, but just unprofessional. If you have the skill to do it, I'd say simply ignore everything I just wrote and go ahead and get those pixels coloured. If this is your first game and you haven't really gathered experience when it comes to making backgrounds and characters etc., I'd strongly recommend to go with a lower resolution. Just my two cents...

Assuming you are still going with 640x480, the character still seems to be rather big for that res.

Concerning the black outline: I'm not a big fan of it, but it seems to be fine for your style. I'd just not make it as thick. It shouldn't be wider than one pixel imo.

The latest version you posted, looks better concerning the balance, but the knees are too much bent. I also think a forehead and maybe some eye-brows would be nice (eye-brows are great to convey emotions etc.) and the shoes definitely need to be flattened. I'd also work on that shading a bit more.

Apart from the above, it's quite nice. You're definitely off to a good start here and it surely has potential to be a very unique character with lots of character  :P.

Shoulders? What Shoulders? ;D He dont seem to have any, so dont lower them :P Dont add any either! He looks more like the lazy, narrow-shouldered type of guy.

Agree. Looking at his eyes, it look like he's wearing glasses :P

Thanks, just a quick edit, and mentioned other mistakes not going to fix all he wont learn like that.
Besides I have McGyver graphics to work on  ;)
Did add the heel however, all he has to do is pretty much copy the first foot and paste it in place of the other leg.
Layers are beautifull, anyway, the pants he is wearing, the bottom fold over parts must be a little wider then the rest of it.

You are making a MacGyver game too? :o

Afflict

Relax, I was working on a story ages ago about Mac after I had a request or two from friends. Never really did anything about it. Until the craving bit me...

Majour research started as I delved deeper and deeper into the MacGyver World, Finding out what made a man a legend. Why these really old episodes became DVD box sets...

The wierd thing is I have this wierd stigma about fan games... (Kingsquest comes to mind)
So I decided if my own story and characters are made no one can tell me not to release and blah blah... However I still have this urge to do a Mac game... Well see.

vict0r

Hehe :P Go ahead. I am also making another game, so it would be nice if you could make that, while i make the other ;D

Afflict

OK last but not least...

Heres some textures applied and stuff still didnt fix him totaly like I said you gota do some work :)
Well hope this helps you out!

Join the army they said see the world they said.. ;)

the textures are great and everyting, but...its kinda turned into something other than MY OWN styleÃ,  :( (simple but stylish) i need to work on drawing shoes. and this is'nt the actual acharacter. i will do a smaller version to fit into my game!Ã,  ;)

here is the latest copy:

P.S: i have'nt decided on doing a forehead or not

if_ur_punk_say_W0o

hey....i was wonder ing if someone could give me an opinion on a hairstyle....

if so, here's the photo....

Scummbuddy

ace, id fix the eyelids. their outline is too thin compared to every other outline on the body.

punk/woot: do not hijack anyones thread. start your own (next time). The picture you posted needs work. I can't really tell that there is hair at all. Search google images for "pixel art female" and you should probably find some good art to try to emulate. Do not post art on these forums that could be done within a minutes work. Good rule of thumb: If you don't spend time on it, why should we?
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Ace_Gamer

eye lids: i tried it with thicker lines, but i thought it looked better with the thiner ones. i think i'll make the lines another pixel thick, aand see what it looks like. anyway, i'll post it at a later date, coz i'm suposed to be revising for an exam :P

Afflict

Hey ace gamer no updates?

Ace_Gamer

no. at the moment i'm kinda happy with the character unless you can suggest something i've missed.
