What the..?
Victor, you are my master from now on.

Seriously, it was seven. Darnit, looks like I might have to thing about quite a lot of stuff again.

EDIT: On second thought, let's take this further. Victor, try to guess the number between 1 and 20 that I have in mind!!

DoorKnobHandle

Ha! Wrong, it was 19. Finally I am free of your will. My brain is MINE! ;D

Thanks, now I am a sceptic again...

vict0r

Ha! I knew that! I just didnt want you to feel imprisoned by my kinetic powers!

Terran, I find it strange that at the first sign of scepticism shown in this thread, you turn overly defensive and upset. What did you expect? A person starts a threads stating "my girlfriend says I can read her thoughts etc" and you expect everybody to go "woah, that's awesome!!".

We don't know you to that extent. Just because you've been around a lot doesn't mean we know all about your personality, to which degree you're likely to exaggerate or misinterpret situations of this nature.

A certain percentage of a population are notorious liers. I could be one, Eric could be one, you could be one. A mytomaniac for all we know. One thing we can be sure of is that we will never know who's the mytomaniac, because that person is probably a very credible one.
In an environment like this, we all need to make calculations, statistical estimations. Don't trust anyone blindly, that would be foolish.

Now for my personal opinion; I didn't believe you when you said you could hypnotize people, and I don't believe you have the ability to read anybody's thoughts, or at least not in a supernatural fashion. People here have explained that words can be guessed, sentences can be finished and moods can be detected by people who know eachother very well.
But telling a number between 1 and 1000? Again and again? No siree.

dkh: you went for the old one. It has been investigated, that from 1-10 people always choose either 7 or 3 unless they know this. So don't read forth if you want to be surprised. this is because the human mind tneds to go for the mist irregular number... never 1 or 10. 2,4,6,8 are dividable by 2 etc. 5 is in the middle, and 9 is dividable by 3 and sometimes thought of being too close to 10. Then again, this is not always. You could very easily figure out ones personality by making him/her tell a number... 3 or 7 is somewhat like someone thinks he's very cunning, bu doesn't knowledge it.

And I can tell you, that if I have a good light, am not sleepy + such, I can guess a perfectly strange persons first name by just looking into his/her eyes... the thing is, there are a few letters that are most popular to start a name with. In Finland for example there are M, N, A, S... for girls... .there's an order you should go through if needed. You have asked the subject not to nod and NOT TO DO ANYTHING that would indicate you're on the track. If her name is, say, Anne, her eyes will move a bit once you reach the A letter... that's just a reflex. But I know it works in most occasions... then all you do, is think of names that start with A and tell her those, starting from the most popular. It should be rather easy if you practise very much ;D

thats just a poor excuse to find a way to talk to random girls! shame on you!
... it's quite easy being the best.

Tuomas

Admitted... but you see, it's a way of having them not run away... and they might be impressed... though I haven't gotten to that yet, but I'm working on it.

dkh.  I would have guessed 7, too. Most people would.  Same as most people would choose 4 if asked to think of a number between 1 and 5.  It's what people perceive to be a random number, but that thanks to everyone thinking the same way, it becomes the most predictable.

Dargh, I was totally gonna post the 7 and 3 thing. Everyone's beating me to my posts today!

*gasp* Maybe... you're all psychically tuned to me!  :o

I'd usually pick 7 or 3 myself, before I ever knew this. Movies and books always use these numbers too (5 is also common when the other two just won't do), particularly 3. People like to think it's an out-there number, slightly off kilter. Wacky. Not two. 4 is rarely used except in Coming of Age stories about young girls, in which case it's frequent because that's how many types of personalities there are among pre-teen girls.

The Three Muskateers is a good example. Noone liked D'Artagnon. Is it because he's a little pussy? No! It's because he ruins the three.

Reminds me of this article, which tends to state the opposite: usually, men are the ones who form groups of 4 (or two, or any even number). Women, however, tend to form the odd-numbered groups.
Actually, I HAVE worked on a couple of finished games. They just weren't made in AGS.
