After living in 2 student houses, and an illegal renting situation gone wrong, I'm currently residing with my parents again. I hate it and want it to stop.

Social housing heard my call and after 5 months of responding to houses that were available, I've been selected for the following 1-room appartment :D

SO AWESOME!

I can't wait to pick up the key and start decorating, after which furnishing and then living! YAY!

(C'mon people, yay for me. You know you want to.)
Still here.

YAY for voh!

I'm confused, they selected you for the house?  Sounds like the trailer to a Kiono Reaves (I know I can't spell) movie.

He was selected for the house... but little did he know... what exactly he was walking into...

Did you get it for free?  Are you on some sort of welfare?  Can I get on it too?  Where's my free house!?!?  :=

Social housing in the Netherlands has different categories. One of them is an age category, and there are a couple of them. 18-23 was the one I was responding to, and as I'm turning 24 in a week or 2, I've been chosen to view and possibly accept the appartment.

And of course it isn't free, but for 294 euro a month, it's not expensive either. And no, I'm not on welfare :P

YAY!

So it's around 6x9 meters? around 50-60 sqm then! Lovely. And it's an open space! Even better. You get to do whatever you want with decorations. Loevly.

And 300 euros is nothing, it's rubbish.

Here, in London, right now, for a two bedroom house, around 70 sqm, I pay 850 GBP (equals 1300 euros!!)

Lovely!

I want to move to the Netherlands... or Japan, for a different reason...

It's 5 by 6 on the longest walls. The usable space in the actual bed/living room is 25m2, and the kitchen/hall area and the bathroom together are about 5-7.

It's pretty awesome. Not a place I'll live for many years, but for a year or two, until something better comes along in the next age category (18-27) or the one after (18-29), I'll be just at home there ^_^

I want to buy a house at some point, but that's after I graduate and get lots of money from people to translate their stuff from english to dutch or the other way around.

I should hope it's for a different reason. If there's one reason people should never move to Japan, it's for the housing.

voh: Congrats!! It looks awesome :D I bet you'll have many a great time there. Getting your own place is, while a tad scary maybe at first, a very very good thing.

voh

Thanks! There will be many parties had before the first month of living there is over, so it'll be broken in quite effectively ;)

Also, my girlfriend might get a room 5 minutes walk distance away, which is awesome. And seeing as how most of my friends currently reside in and around the city centre, it's awesome living smack down in the middle of it :)

You are one lucky ...!
Here, that's where I live:

Scale 1:20.

I tried to throw out the parents, but they are under monumental protection, or something!
Well, congrats to you. (Grr!)

Oh yeah, everything's made out of paper, right?

DiscoNinja

Wow, that looks really awesome. And for that much money, just wow. Nice job!

Tuomas

Wow, lucky you.
My sister's boyfriend had the same kind before they moved in together, but it was much smaller. The blueprint is exactly the same. It was a student flat that the local association provides them, considered to be a rather good one at that. But it still had the same rent but was MUCH smaller.

Not paper, but they sure as hell aren't made out of anything that insulates. The screen doors and windows are often paper though. Mine are, anyway. Or rather, wooden frames with drabs of paper hanging off them like something out of a horror film, but I have a cat ^_^

Congrats voh. Having a place to call your own is a great thing. Now, you are the king of your castle, the master of your domain. You can come and go as you please, and watch porn all of the time.  ;D

Have fun, and take pictures when you move in.

m0ds

Phat pad, voh! The floor plan looks really cushty - you'll enjoy that flat. I can't wait to move out - a flat would be lush! My mate's lived in some pretty cool one bedroom flats but nothing compared to what you've got there! Nice!!

What is building block 2 though? DUPLO? :P

voh

I knew someone would ask about the building blocks ;)

No, it's not duplo, lego or any of the other make your own contrapment kind of toys :p

They're wooden blocks, with two shelves each, which I use in whatever way I want. They're quite versatile. Place them horizontally and they're like small tables (with shelves), or place them vertically and they're tiny little black pillars ^_^

Other than that, yes, it's an awesome deal and I can't wait.

Other good news is that my sister is moving in with her boyfriend around may, so I can buy a lot of her old stuff that she doesn't need anymore (think coffee machine, table, wardrobe, bed, washing machine). Which is awesome! :D

It's great to have a place on your own, I've shared places for years and finally got enough money together to buy my own (with the help of a home loan).

And I just happen to live in one of the more expensive cities in the world to live (Sydney), and I'm not rich either. I'm also about 25km out of the city but it's expensive everywhere, especially in the north and east.

Good luck Voh, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

My place is smaller than yours and quite a bit more expensive too, but it's all I can really afford.

here's a few pics

The Building (some of it, I can't fit it in 1 photo)

above from google earth

kitchen, it has a combination microwave and conventional oven and dishwasher etc

computer area

couch, the rear surround sound speakers

Wall unit, which has everything, TV, Home Theatre, Stereo, cupboards, drawers, and on Saturday, in the section on the right, I will have a double pull down wall bed (which I've been waiting 4 months to be shipped from Spain) there's also more cupboards to the right out of shot [this doesn't come with the place, it's all extras I've bought]

The view out my window (zoom x3) but I shrinked the image anyway

So It's only a small studio, I have a bathroom too but everyone knows what they look like

I also have a pool, spa, sauna, gym, bar, cafe, car space

It's also got aircon, which I'm glad cause it's pretty hot today, but nice and cool in here, cant get cable internet but I've got ADSL 512k which is fine for me.

It's great having your own place

Kinoko

Timosity, that rocks, man ^_^ Amazing place you've got there!

Holy crap! I'm living in a quite large 3-room flat (+ kitchen, big hallway, separate bathroom and separate WC) and even that comes cheaper than 294 euros. Well, it's not the city Center, but 10 minutes drive from it.

ManicMatt

Is it me or do they have a different co-co pops cartoon mascot over there? Bit hard to see on that photo.
