This is a 2D version of the semi-popular Bone: Out From Boneville adventure game and is based heavily on the comic book. Here are the "required" screenshots (more to come later):
The dreaded picnic that got Phoney run outta Boneville!

Fall off large cliffs!

See the beautiful sights of the idyllic Valley!

STORYLINE (for those who either didn't play the game or else don't read the comics or whatever)
After being run out of Boneville, the three Bone cousins, Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone were lost in a vast, uncharted desert. They became separated some time after that, and found their way into an idyllic valley. They reunite, but little do they know, their adventures are just beginning....

Do you feel that it is unfair to require production proof and promotion images?

Helm

I think they're horrible, but they won't stop you from making your game. The 'art' 'style' doesn't suit Bone at all, of course, or indeed, much of anything I can think of right now, but seriously, if you want to make this game or any other, go for it. It won't look good, but that doesn't mean it won't possibly play good either. If you have no strength in gameplay making, writing, scoring though, since clearly art is not your strength, you should really think about what you're trying to do with ags. If you just want to have fun, cool. If you desire to make something others will enjoy... well.

I might enjoy this. I don't like Bone though, guess I was too old when I learnt about it. Are you using the standard Mspaint palette?
Hell is like Tetris, make sure that you fit.

Steel Drummer

my characters are good (better than some, especially that guy making a runescape game). My backgrounds suck, and I'm good at using ags. Remember, Larry Vales had bad graphics too.

Keep up the work.  I have seen worse on backgrounds and worse on graphics in general , but the gameplay ended up being fantastic.  No one here knows what the game will be like until it is complete!  I put off playing "life of a duck" for quite awhile due to the graphics or lack of graphics.  It ended up being a really fun game.  At least you have the guts to give this a go....I never will!!  Good Luck!

thanks for the encouraging words... Helm is so critical. I can't do anything about it if no one wants to help with the backgrounds. Most AGS games have lame graphics anyways- Beyond Reality, Rude Awakening, Larry Vales,  Knight's Tale or whatever, the list goes on and on. My animations/characters are awesome though, better than a lot I've seen. This game will do good I think. Anyways, thanks for what you said, it helps a lot despite criticism.

Why doesn't the art style suit Bone? All the backgrounds (pretty much) are lookalikes of panels from the comic!

I fiercely disagree. The only way I can tell this is a Bone game past the thread's title is the (I'm guessing that is Phoney's) black shirt with yellow star.

I recommend that you either wait until you can find a practiced artist or spend a bit more time on your art. You can't convince me that you spent any quality time making that. Sure you're not the best artist, as you agree, but rushing only makes matters worse.

Also...quadruple posting? is that a record? Again, I must point out the 'modify' link in the top right of your posts.

Grundislav

Yodaman,

You have asked why people are criticizing your game?  I'll tell you why.

Your graphics are not "good" as you claim.  They look like they were drawn in a matter of minutes in MS Paint.  In your other thread you claimed that your Bone game was going to be like a LucasArts game from 1992-1995.  I assume you didn't mean visually similar, because this doesn't look anything like a LucasArts game.

The other games you talk about may not have good graphics, but they're original ideas.  You're remaking a game that doesn't need to be remade, and making a version that is going to be a totally inferior product.

I'm not trying to viciously attack you, I'm just trying to tell you that you should make your own games and practice your art.  Anyway, you have several games you're working on, don't you?

Steel Drummer

I agree that the bgs aren't the greatest. I'll remake those later and put more time into it. The characters may not look good from the screenshots, but in the actual game they look good. If people think the bgs are bad, why don't they help me do some? And yes, I'm working on other games, I have TONS of free time. Actually, Bone is the only thing I'm working on at the moment- I finished my other game I was working on (see the 2010: World of Chaos production thread).

I've cleaned this thread up quite a bit ... keep to the topic from now on.

Yodaman - Some advice:

1) This isn't the CL.  Don't ask for opinions on the graphics here.  If you want them, post in the CL, that's what it's for.

2) You can't please everybody.  Helm is well within his rights to dislike your graphics and be critical of them (though not in this thread :) )

3) For the love of holy GOD use the damn modify link.  You had 5 posts in a row for Pete's sake.

4) Focus on one game at a time.

Steel Drummer

If you want my long list of reasons for making this, there's a thread on the general forum called Bone: Out From Boneville. See that. I am remaking the backgrounds and am taking my time, so they come out good. I'm going to post a few to show you. They're only a bit better but still... and it's five 1s in yodaman11111 not 6!!  8)  ;)
what's a good background drawing program that is easy to use, yet is good enough to draw Bone style art? Can you tell me of one? And this game is going to have some unique features like the ability to use Phoney, Smiley, OR Fone Bone to interact, talk, and anything else, without changing who the player controls. Anyways, here are the screens (some images may not be as high-quality as others)

remake of Phoney's picnic

remake of the gulley scene

I'll show more when I remake 'em.

THIS IS NOT THE CRITICS LOUNGE.

I'm going to lock this thread if this rediculousness continues ...

why'd they make YOU a moderator?

Because he's the kind of person suitable for moderating this board? A lot of junk get posted, but Darth cleans it up. If you follow the rules and advice given to you, you'll be just fine. If you don't... well, you've got Darth on your back.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Ok Darth, why oh why do you keep deleting my posts? :)

I don't like you as a moderator either! JOKE JOKE, you're coolÃ,  ;).

I'm pointing out the contribution thread 'cause (probably) most of these are drawn in freeware programs.
