It's a sad thing, but I am selling off one of my oldest guitars.

Reference link: (Not advertising, just showing what I am talking about. My mother posted it, so blame her for the weird and un-pleasant description)
My Guitar

I've had her for about 12 years, played many gigs with her, lent her to to my girlfriend when she left to tenessee once as a sign of commitment. I love this guitar, but am short on cash, It has the sweetest low sound, and it will kill you if you don't know how to fiddle with effects just right (the hollow body can make some crazy feedback if you don't watch it).

I covered the case with stickers of where I've been in my life, and the case was filled with scraps of half written songs, old love letters, and drawings. I feel like I am selling part of my soul here people.

Just wanted to vent, and wondered if anyone else has ever had these feelings attached to a simple, dead object....

Blackthorne

Dude, I'd give you $25 bucks NOT to sell it, man.  You'll regret it.  Trust me.

It sounds as if your guitar would make a better heirloom than a source of quick cash. Based on how dearly you spoke of it, I wouldn't give it up, especially what it is listed at now.

A bit off-topic, but I was wondering how your mother uses this. Does she really shower with a bird? o_O

Helm

Unacceptable. Don't sell your guitar. I give you another 25 bucks not to.

Dude, don't sell that. Quick cash isn't an excuse for a lifetime of memories down the drain. I too would pay you in some respect to keep it.

Why not just pool together everybody's 25 dollar bills to purchase Squinky's guitar, and then return it to him when he's not so strapped for cash?

Use it as leverage towards something, like another Pirate Fry game or his presence at Mittens.

Nacho

25 more bucks here... How many do we have so far?
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Andail

I'll give 25 bucks for those half-written songs and old love letters.

Chicky

How much are you looking for squinky?

SSH

I've got all my old guitars except one, even the ones that are knackered.  The only one i'm missing is the one my cousin has now, that i got as a first guitar as a kid and wasn't really interested in at the time.  I even want that one back, now.

Put me down for $25, too.

Hey guys,

You guys are great to offer your help, but I couldn't take it. I respect you folks so much, and hope you can respect my silly notions about charity.

Backstory on this auction (Since it was kinda asked for): I basically need to sell it to fund a car drive from Idaho to Missouri, in the U.S. My grandmother lives there, and here boyfriend has had a stroke which left him pretty much gone, so me and some others are driving over there to help her pack, sell her stuff and move here. I'm just trying to cover the costs of gas and a stuff on a drive through the night type trip.

Again thank you for the offers, I guess I posted this here as more of a eulogy for my old friend. Kind of a closure type thing. I know that might be hard to understand, but it makes me feel a bit better about.

For those worried, I still have another guitar, so I will be cool.

Disco

My mother apparently has that in her office, she lets her bird fly free in her house. I never noticed it before, and never knew it was built to be used in the shower. Who the hell makes stuff like that?

Andail
You probably wouldn't find them too interesting, the love letters are written by me when I was between 17-22 and are silly things, along with the songs, nothing specail. Mostly just power-chord junk...heh.

rharpe

Not to throw this too far off topic, but I smell a game in the making here! Plot: save the guitar before its ebayed by your mother. The game could be a collaboration of all that would like to show tribute to Squinky and his guitar.

Back on topic...
Reminds me of a story I read as a child: The Giving Tree.

This is one of the most heart-breaking threads I've had to read on the entire internet.

Indeed... and Gregory House says it, which gives an idea of the degree of heart-breaking of the issue.

But really, I am a bit lost... Where does say it is her mother who is putting the item into auction? Ain't Squinky the person who is selling it?

Sorry for the out of topic, but I'd like to know, if possible...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Man, I'm strapped for cash too, but I'd give you 40$ not to sell that!

You can't sell something that's so intertwined with who you are and what you've become... I could never sell my acoustic (it's 36 years old), which I got from my dad and have been playing on myself for over 14 years now. I could become homeless, and I'd be the homeless guy with the acoustic guitar.

It's not charity, it's people understanding the situation you're in and seeing the choice you're having to make and not liking that choice one bit. You shouldn't be in this situation, and neither should your gram and her partner, but life is a bitch and a feisty one at that..

Honestly, dude... With my 40, you've got 165 dollars right there. From people who give a shit, and you won't have to fear someone treating your dear guitar badly (because that's the fear I had when selling my laptop and bass guitar ages ago), because you'll be wielding it yourself.

And just give us a game as thanks, and we'll all be happy. If I can pay 40$ for a game, I can pay 40$ for an awesome guitar staying with the owner it deserves to have (seeing as you obviously love this guitar).

:'(
Still here.

He refused us to give theÃ,  money, Voh... But I was being serious about making something...

We should buy it, give it one year to CJ (He is learing to play guitar) and then give back to Squinky. So it's not "compassion"/charity... It's a lend by a year and, after that, a gift. Making a gift to a friend is not charity.

What do you think?
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

voh

I'd go for that. I'd be happy to spend some money on that.
Still here.

Gregjazz

Put me down for $25.

I know how much you'll regret it if you sell the guitar. :(

Nacho

I think we should count the names of the members who would like to help and then divide the price of the article by the cipher.
