A little advice from you graphic gurus?

Ok...

Since I had my hard disk formated, I'm trying to do things better this time.

Anyway I'm working on a text in Word (from Windows XP home, not the microsoft office) which includes texst (obviously) and music scores, in the form of a picture (any format possible). And after that I will include audio samples, which you will be able to click and listen, like attachments or something.

Now this whole thing will be big, very big, around 200 pages I reckon. And the size will be big also since the scores will be rather large, with more than 70 of those, plus another 100 smallish oggs... So we're talking about 100 Mb in all (or even biger, don't know yet).

The best way to distrubute this, I figure, is to make the whole thing into chapters (so that one can download it little by litte) and also have it only in a pdf form.

Any ideas so far? Any advice?

Now the tricky question.

I need to keep this tidy and legal all the way. So no warez or any kind of tricky stuff. I downloaded a program which can make pdf files (free program all the way), so I'm okay from that aspect. My problem lies elsewhere:

I use Finale 2000 (what an old program is this), for the scores, which can export graphics in either ETF, or TIFF format. Rather difficult formats I figure. I can't use photoshop since I don't own it, so that's out. I need to find a way to make these TIFF files, into jpgs of good quality, or even better keep them TIFF but crop them to the exact size I need them to be. Any ideas? Even if it means paying a little money, but a little only.

Keep in mind that after I make the text+scores+audio, everything will be turned into pdf format, so I need the final result to look good (and I think that jpg is not the best way to go).

My appreciation to all you people who will (hopefully) help me.  :)

SSH

Irfanview is free, small, and can handle most image file formats. It can do cropping, it can also run in a batch mode if you have a lot of files to convert.

Thanks Andrew.

Indeed irfanview does the job. And it can handdle dozens of file formats...

One other simple rather question now: I tried both bmp, jpg and tif formats. When making the doc into pdf, the jpg is completly rubbish, so it's out of the question. But until now I thought that TIF is one of the best formats around, but it seems to me that bmp does a better job (when it comes to converting everything into pdf that is). Just want to check the "official", theoritical view, before I start working and have to redo things all over...

SSH

Can Finale print rather than dump as an image? You might getter better and smaller results if you install one fo these "print to pdf" pseudo-printer drivers instead

Yes it can and Finale is a pro notation software.

But the thing is that I'm not looking to "publish" scores, but text with scores. something like a "guide for music" with lots and lots of text and scores, and audio samples. That is extremely difficult to do in Finale, as it is really bad in texts...
