Can anyone reccomend a nice, digital camera? I need a cheap one, around 60-100 dollars US with computer hookups. I've searched E-Bay for cheaper ones but they seem faulty.

EDIT: Sorry if this post is dumb, but Im not very big on cameras.

Amazon and Google are your friends. A digital camera for under 100 is hard to find. Well, good ones are hard to find. eBay is the best place to find cheap digitals. I suggest anything from Canon or Nikon that you can afford. But remember, you'll have to invest in a memory card too for more shooting space. Most cameras come with little memory, or none.

Anything under $100 isn't really worth buying. If you're going to invest, buy a nicer one. But, I can understand why money might be an issue. The Kodak EasyShares are the best built for the cheap end, but for $100 more you could buy something ten times nicer.

Ill have to look at those later today. Thanks  for helping though, I didn't really know what a good camera might cost so I ranged between 60-100.

For a good camera, see amount of megapixels (MP) and zoom strength. Also the amount of distortion. Not the price! Anything under 4MP is too weak nowadays... IMO

Sam.

yehah, the world is in too high a resolution now to be properly represented in anything lower than 4mp.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Ishmael

The first thing for an amatuer photographer to look into is the image guality in general. Zoom and amount of pixels are not that important. The exposure, flash efficiency and image sharpness are more important. You can add zoom and image size later if you have the cash for it, I says.

Canon Powershots are generally very good. I still have my Powershot A60 (with only 2.0 mega pixels!) and it's excellent especially in leisure use (for example, photographing AGS meetings). It's not too bad for artistic photography either, but the settings, like exposure time and stuff, are too limited. I've taken truckloads of photos with it, for example these two:

I'm planning to get a new one some time soon, hopefully.

But anyways, it very much depends on what you're going to do with your camera.

I concur. For $150-$200 you can get a very nice Canon Powershot. So save your pennies!

IMO canon offers the highest quality for the cheapest price. But if you can find a Nikon Coolpix 995 for relatively cheap, GET IT. It is the best point and shoot I have ever used. I'd offer you mine, but I kinda wanna keep it around just in case.

The Kodaks are cheaper, yes, but they offer little to no manual abilities and the color quality is simply bad sometimes. So study the Canon line. You may find something you really like.

I have to agree. I use a Canon Powershot A80 (4.0 MP) and I absolutely love it. Also, if you're taking video, the quality is better than that of a Kodak or Fujifilm. Besides Canons are the only ones with a handy swivel LCD screen which is REALLY helpful especially for those hard to get shots.

don't zoom with digital cameras. walk the distance you need to get closer to theme. Digital zoom is bane on image quality on all but the more high-end digital cameras. What you're looking for is image quality (how what you see translates to what picture you took) and a degree of pixel-level detail. 4 megapixels are more than enough for an amateur.

If you don't plan on printing anything bigger than a 5x7, then 3 megapixels is great. Anything over 5 is just excess for consumer use.

Helm is right, digital zoom is terrible and should never be used. What you want is optical zoom, where the lens actually moves to zoom closer. With that you don't lose quality, but you'll need a steady hand so the pictures stay sharp.

That quality of photo is perfect for me! I just need to save up now for a nice Canon Powershot!

@lgm,helm,zor= I don't need too many MP's just enough to have a nice quality photo. I'll have to save up and get a Powershot because you all seem to think its good. Well thanks for all your help! Im off to save up for a Powershot!

Glad we can help. Good luck!

I'm a perfectionist, so I rumbled through a netstore to find the cheapest camera with more than 3x optical zoom... and found a neat Olympus one.

So at this point I appologise for a partial thread hijack, but I'd like to know if you people have any exprience on Olympus cameras? Are they worth their price?

Olympus are very nice. The lenses can be top notch. Opo Terser uses an older model, and it yields some very nice pics. almost SLR quality sometimes, though the resolution is of course low.

Toefur

Olympus camera's are great. Like LGM said, they generally have really good lenses as well. I swear by my Olympus. Some of the cheaper models aren't so good, but you get that with all brands I suppose.

Ishmael

Thank you. :)

Now all I need is a magical teleport into a camera shop and a few extra monies on my hand... ¬¬
