Name: the Quizzening!

As mentioned in another thread, many people don't know many of the names used in adventure gaming. Hence, this pop quiz. Please wrap your answers in [ hide ] tags so as not to spoil it for others (or, if you want, PM them to me). And note that while I can't stop you, replaying the games now to get the names is cheating. If you think this isn't possible, hey, I'm working from memory too

Be as precise as possible. I won't argue over spelling errors (well, except for one, maybe), but if a character has a last name please include it as well or the answer won't count. Several characters have a nickname, but we're looking for their real names!

Prize? Ah, I'll think of something. Btw moderators, feel free to move this to the 'activities' forum if you want (but if you do, I'll create a new quiz in a week or two )

(1) the phone company. Ironically, it's simply called The Phone Company, TPC for short.

*(3) the evil aliens. The Caponians. The Skolarians are the good guys.

From LOOM...
(1) the protagonist. Bobbin Threadbare. Turns out some people don't know what "protagonist" means   (and I'd like to see a picture of Anym!)
*(2) the guildmaster of the glassblowers. Crucible, who is the man who talks to the bishop about the Spheres. Goodmold is just a member, who incidentally "looks sadly at the screen when he... y'know".
+(3) the young blacksmith. Wellwrought Nailbender. Half a point for "Rusty Nailbender", which is his nickname. No points for just "Rusty".

From Monkey Island...
(1) the sword master. Carla.
(2) the sheriff of Melee town. Fester Shinetop. Also, I would have given full points to any smartass to point out it's actually LeChuck.
(3) the cartographer of Scabb. Wally B. Feed. Most people seems to forget he has a last name (which, admittedly, isn't mentioned all that often).

From Indiana Jones...
(1) the protagonist. Trick question... his real name is Henry Jones Junior; Indiana is actually his dog's name. This is explained in The Last Crusade. Sophia Hapgood is a sidekick; half a point for mentioning both her and Indy.
(2) the nazi professor. Ubermann (with an umlaut, if you must). Bonus point for pointing out his first name is Hans, since I didn't recall that myself.
(3) the last king of Atlantis. Nur-Ab-Sal.

From King's Quest...
(1) the previous king of Daventry. Edward the Benevolent.
*(2) the shopkeeper's dog. Kenny, after Ken Williams. That would be KQ3, which is the only game in the series with both a shopkeeper and a dog. If I were really nasty I would have asked after the town's name, which is never actually mentioned in-game.
(3) Crown Isle's captain of the guard. Saladin.

From Space Quest...

(2) the owner of ScumSoft. Elmo Pug.

*(1) the girl at the elevator. Faith. The other girls are Fawn and Eve, and the unnamed hooker.
(2) the evil professor. (Doctor) Nonookee.
*(3) your divorce lawyer. Susie Cheatum. She's with Dewey, Cheatum and Howe.

From Quest for Glory...
*(1) the centaur girl. Hilde Pferdefedern.
*(2) the Shapeir apothecary. Harik Attar. Salim is the apothecary in Tarna (and Silmaria).
*(3) the Simbani's chief's son. Yesufu. Simba is Uhura's son.

And if it wasn't obscure enough yet, a few bonus questions...

(2) Hugo's girlfriend. Penelope, from House of Horrors.
+(3) the blue gobliin. The typo is the clue... Winkle. The other one is Fingus.
(4) the prophetic pig. Hen Wen, from The Black Cauldron.
(5) the priestess that gets turned to stone. Brynn, Brandon's sister in Kyrandia. For some reason I had the name 'Brenda' in mind, but she is really called Brynn. Hence, bonus points.


This is hardly statistically relevant, but it appears that people are more likely to remember LucasArts characters. I don't find this surprising considering the Lucas games have almost always had superior dialogue.

At any rate, thanks for participating. If people are interested, it may be nice to put up a (bi-weekly?) quizzening in the activities forum. But maybe a smaller one; 35 questions seems to be pushing it. If so, then Anym gets to do the first one since he won this.

I think it'd work. This one got enough of a response, and many contest thingies only get between five and ten entrants in the first place. It's a bit like puzzle time. I'd say try it for a few sessions, it's pretty harmless (besides, I want a chance to win too )

Sophia isn't playable, though (well, ok, in two scenes she is, but that hardly counts compared to Maniac Mansion's or Zak's multi-characteresness). I don't recall being able to play Henry Sr, but I didn't score full Series Points so I may have missed something.
