Here it is- the remake of the most controversial (and I use the term loosely) ;D game in AGS history. Yep, you guessed it- David Smith: Private Investigator!!!! (and no, the game's title doesn't include the exclamation marks)Ã,  ::)Ã,  Anyways, this is a totally redone, totally new adventure. No, it's not a sequel, it's just a better version of the original game (which, in case you were wondering, is 2010: World of Chaos). The game features:
A completely (pretty much) redone storyline!
190%+ better characters!Ã,
A whole cast of voice actors!
And much, much, more..

Here are some screenshots:

This first one is just a background (by gameboy)..

A night version of the same scene (paintover by yodaman11111)

(bg by yodaman11111)

(bg by yodaman11111)

The game features characters by lo_res_man and yodaman11111, backgrounds by Saberteeth, gameboy, and yodaman11111 and here's the voice cast:
FEATURING Rob "Raggit" Scott as David Smith with "Obi" as Man on Plane, Freddy Bonetti, and The Guard and Strange Visitor as AL-Fahar Shamra.
(there are others, but we don't want to spoil it.)

Here's the stats:

Storyline: 95%Ã,
Characters: 60%
Animation: 10%
Music: 100%
Voices: 40%

We are currently hiring voice actors. If you'e interested, PM me.

PRODUCTION NOTES/INFO

Finished a good portion of the game. Going smoothly, with one new background (by saber and gameboy) being made each week. Characters are going great too. Thank you, lo_res_man! Voices are painstaking work, because we have to take a line, convert it to WAV format, and then find the right place in the game to put it in. For music, we are using 1-2 themes from the old game, and are using free midis off the internet. Keep checking back for the latest news on the game!Ã,
NEW: Here's some speech from the game, and a piece of music from it also. http://s2.gimehost.com/v/5313403/Line_preview.zipÃ,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  Ã, NOTE: The rough voice is a police chief and the regular voice is David Smith. The rest is from a German thug.

Check in a reply for the screenshots.

So... how much are you paying? ;D

Looks much much better than the prequel, so keep it up!

Steel Drummer

We're not paying anything, actually. :)

yodaman11111 - it's good to see you're still making games (and your graphics do seem to be improving!).  Keep on truckin'.

However ... if you're interested in asking for help with the project; update your first post w/ the part of the project you're looking for help on.  If people express interest send them a PM to follow up.  Otherwise this thread will be clogged with "chat" and we need to avoid that.

Best of luck w/ the game ...

Steel Drummer

Thanks. Those first two screens have bgs made by me, but I hope to get the better screens up soon..

Convert them to WAV?

That's the mistake I first made, and my game size was freaking HUGE!

Someone on this here forum advised me to convert them to ogg files, which reduced the file size a hell of a lot!

Steel Drummer

Actually, converting to WAV is more space conservative. I put them into wav, and then made the sound quality a bit lower. Each file (which was once about 14.5 MB) is now 14.5 KB.  :=

Check out www.freewebs.com/davidkingdom, the official site of this game. Not much on it yet, but I hope to add some this week..

It's not a good idea to have many different style artists working on the same game. The graphics will look out of place. Well, just my opinion.

Good luck with the game!

Steel Drummer

In the screenshot with the robot guy, the characters were both drawn by separate people. And with the bgs it's meant to look out of place (after all, this game is a comedy)  ;)

What?
Are you saying that if something is funny then one area must look like it is from a completely different universe?
Your sitcoms must be weird.
i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Steel Drummer

The backgrounds aren't GREATLY contrasting (eg: a drawing of a six year old compared to a drawing by Krysis  :) It's just easier to have more than one bg artist since the game gets made faster.

Space saving over quality eh? Actually, WAV isn't more space conservative. For example, if you convert file HEAD4 to obb, the file size goes down from 19.1kb to 12kb.  :P

So there!

Steel Drummer

Oh yeah? Well.... you suck!!!

Just kidding. I prefer WAV over OGG, anyway. And besides, most games with speech take up 200 MB, so there.  :=

You're not gaining much with the quality. A 192 kbps mp3 (and thus an ogg file of the same quality) sound just as good as an uncompressed wav file, and is about one tenth of the size.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

<Calin> Ishmael looks awesome all the time

Steel Drummer

Well, I currently don't have any programs to record mp3- or ogg for that matter. I'm just using the default "sound recorder" program. I've been looking around the internet for some free programs to record voices but they all are trial version that you need to pay 300 dollars for.

I'm surprised you had the "audacity" to post that. Anyways, thanks. You're right, Mp3 is better than WAV. I had never heard of the program you suggested, however.

Play_Pretend

Yeah, Audacity's what I use, and it's pretty great...it can also export as WAV, MP3 or OGG, Yodaman.
