... Or it's this new driver from nVidia...  :-\

Basically, I installed the new driver for my very crappy graphics card (a Geforce 4 integrated), rebooted and all was fine. Some strange warning messages worried me for a while, but nothing bad occured until I tried running NWN. It refused to work after the opening movies. I check Display settings and I discover I have a second non-existant monitor I can't get rid of. THEN I discover to my joy that in Device Manager I have 4 monitors! (Two Defaults and two Plug and Plays)

Removing the driver is something I can't do, otherwise I would have done it. So....

HELP!

EDIT: I have a bucket of rotten fishheads for the first person who suggests buying a new graphics card.

Have other games worked?

This may sound like a stupid question, but have you checked that the graphics card is compatible with NWN?

I'm no expert, but seeing as the Geforce 4 supports multiple monitors that's probably not a problem that you have more on your device manager.

It sounds like Windows has installed the card twice, and since the card supports a secondary monitor, Windows now has reg entries for FOUR monitors (two per card). :-\

Did you uninstall the old drivers first?

Or...

I just updated my Nvidia drivers on my Geforce 6200, and every time Windows starts I get a little balloon telling me I am running an SLI setup, but that SLI has been disabled because my SECOND graphics card is missing.

I do NOT have a second graphics card, nor an SLI setup either. >:(

It seems the latest Nvidia drivers have added some new gubbins to support newer graphic card setups, and all the problems haven't been ironed out yet. :-\

Anyway, why can't you unistall the drivers? Installing new drivers over old drivers is something I wouldn't recommend, especially since the card is intergrated, and your old install is probably conflicting with your new install.

There's a bug in the newest "certified" drivers that causes the panel to alert you that you're missing 1 of 2 cards for an SLI setup.  Consequently, the ability to disable the taskbar utility gets disabled as well.

Check the beta page for the 91.33 drivers, the only real difference is correction of this bug.

The SLI bug might be contributing to Huw's problems as well.   Huw, to make sure you're not double-installed, use Add/Remove programs->nVidia drivers->remove only the following->Display drivers.  Then, goto system->device manager->display adapters and choose uninstall for the nVidia card(s) that's there.  Reboot computer and it'll use a generic driver and probably alert you to the presence of your card. Ignore the errors and cancel out of the hardware wizard.  Run the nVidia driver setup again, reboot and re-adjust your resolution.

There haven't been any changes for the GeForce 4 in quite awhile, so there's really not much benefit to updating (unless a specific game's been buggy for you and it's been addressed).

You say you can't uninstall it? Is this because of lack of admin rights, or some glitch?  You could try just the add/remove/reinstall portion of the above.

There have also been some quirks moving to the new control panel, you might try adjusting the monitor settings under each style.  Also, there's an "advanced" mode if you check the drop-down menus under the new control panel, some settings enabled that way might correct it.

Well, I fixed it by rolling back the driver. I didn't consider uninstalling the old driver first, so that was probably the problem. Me thinks I shall try that. The primary reason I was updating was display glitches in a certain game (Dawn of War), and they wern't artifacts, so it was the driver at fault.

Egad, I'm an idiot.  ;)
