I register my domain through them...($10/yr)...but I'm too cheap to cough up another $10/yr for the hosting. :=

Actually my mom has paid for the domain twice now...and I still don't have any money. :'(

Hird: The one you're proposing is rather more expensive than the first one mentioned in this thread.

Still this kind of offer is hard to say no. I'm at 1 Gb space and 10 Gb monthly transfer only :p . But anyhow doesn't seem that I have any problem yet. I never surpass the 3 Gb monthly limit... :)

$4.95--$5.25? That's not much. And if you'd take a look at what they offer, it's well worth it.

Also, I have only heard bad things about netfirms.

But aren't we comparing $10 for a year for £5.25 / month?

Oh, crap, didn't see that. Anyway - that's only for the first year, and if you're not keeping your website up for more than a year, do you really need paid hosting?

Actually, just ignore me. Should have read the post fully...

Joseph DiPerla

LOL.

I think the price stays the same as long as you put the code in when you renew it.

Plus I am hosting Energonplant.com with netfirms and I never have any problems. The tools suite they offer is awesome as well.

Servage.com seems to have an awesome deal as well. If I could put in a coupon code for them, I would choose them. Its just that they are too expensive right now.

That is all.

73.24 GB of space for $90USD / year? Sounds more like a scam than a webhosting offer to me.

Of course the whole lack of job (and/or funding) prevents me from paid hosting anyway.

[EDIT:]

Blast! Another failed operation.

I'm trying to mirror some of the old AGS downloads, but all of my webhosts won't allow me to. 100WebSpace doesn't allow access to files over 500kb, Brinkster doesn't allow ZIP files over 1 MB to be uploaded, and now NetFirms won't allow access to files over 256 kb.

Hmm...forgot about my Freewebs space...that seems to work, but the single-file-at-a-time uploading is a bit annoying. :-\ Guess you get what you pay for then.

Joseph DiPerla

Maybe your doing something wrong... Netfirms doesnt give me that problem and I have several accounts with them.

Check out energon-plant.com to see Netfirms performance and file sizes. Thats my website.

monkey0506

But you've paid for your hosting haven't you?

I have a FREE Hosting account...came with my domain.

And just taking a look at it, the coupon code MAX seems to have expired or some such because it doesn't appear to be updating the price to the alleged $10.

They don't oversell, and they haven't gone down once.
ed: I mean for me of course

Joseph DiPerla

hmm... Have youdone it on the 4.95 deal or the higher ones? It still works for me.

I just have to plug this... while they don't have a MAX code for it for a little less double what is mentioned above ($7.77 a month) you get from Powweb:

20000MB (19.5GB) of disk space (split between email and your site itself)
400GB monthly transfer
Unlimited E-mail boxes (user@urlname.com)
Unlimited E-mail forwarding addresses
webmail access
5 MySQL Database
Tons of installable extras (like forums, content managers, blogs, shopping carts, and the like)
FrontPage 98/2000/2002 Extensions , PHP4 & PHP5 w/Zend Optimizer, Perl5, Sendmail
CGI-BIN, SSI, .htaccess, Cronjobs, Flash, Shockwave, Midi, Multimedia Support
Custom error messages
Built-in OsCommerce Shopping Cart, SSL - Shared Secure Certificate, Accept Paypal Payments
You can even edit your DNS entries
24/7 Live Response Tech Team Support

And a bunch more... They have a multiple redundant setup to get to your pages, 2 or more routers to get to your severs, multiple load sharing servers with your site on it, on with each server running a RAID. Their uptime is pretty much 100%. I had one issue with them and uptime for 2 weeks (was down constantly due to a hardware failure, this was before they went to the multiple router setup) and they credited me 2 months of free hosting for just 2 weeks of downtime.

They also have a community forum where you can ask and answer questions, and where they put announcements for changes and what not. You pay 53.31 (+30 dollar setup fee) for a 3 month plan (don't know why they have the plan but I guess people do use it) which comes out to 17.77 a month (+30), a one year plan 7.77 a month (93.24 per year)and 1 year free domain name, and a 2 year plan 7.77 a month (186.48) with 2 year free domain name.

They run specials all the time, in fact when I joined I got a buy 2 years get 2 years free, so basically I paid 186.48 for 4 years of hosting (I pay again in 2009 for 2 more years).

If you do decide to go this route, when signing up please put yelloweyedstudio.com as your referer :)

Jesus is crying. Powweb is one of those companies that get all the bad reviews of bad service...

Alynn

As I've said, never had a bad time with how many companies do you know that give you 2 months free for only 2 weeks of uptime issues. And I haven't had another uptime issue since.

I'm speaking from experience, I wouldn't plug something that was horribly bad. I've never had bad service from them. They have tons of extras (as I mentioned, and some that I haven't).

shbaz

How is GoDaddy for a host? I just signed on for a couple of months with them, not $10 a year but still not a bad deal.

Think i might use this as the domain for my Warhammer 40k minisite, thanks for this Di!!
