I had started this project a time ago but now I've decided to finally prove my skills at AGS and continue its development...Ã,  :P

I'm proud to present a remake of the classic 1980 game Adventure in Serenia/The Wizard and the princess, with VGA graphics, a point-and-click interface, new puzzles and an improved storyline that links the game with the King's Quest universe.

It will be a short game, but very funny to play (specially for the KQ fans out there)

THE STORY

Young King Edward of Daventry travels through the land of Serenia to rescue a princess from the evil wizard Harlin.

A nice looking KQ remake.
Nice graphics you got there, I hope you finish it this time.

Wow, yet another game that I loved on my C64 being remade in AGS! I'm excited! The graphics look great.

Did you make the graphics? They all seem very, very familiar.

Actually, like smx stated, The Wizard and The Princess IS a remake of Roberta Williams' first game set in the King's Quest world (http://www.vintage-sierra.com/hires/two.html), released even before King's Quest I and shortly after Mystery House (the first graphical adventure game ever). The Wizard and The Princess was a very simple first person game without any animation, originally released on the Apple II, I think.

The font is taken from the original box art of the game (see http://www.vintage-sierra.com/hires/watpv5.html), so I doubt it's available as a free TTF font, but I don't know for certain, of course.

The town of Serenia and its desert later featured in King's Quest V, so it seems an obvious choice to reuse some of the VGA backgrounds from King's Quest V.

I'm looking forward to this. I've never managed to finish the original game to this day.

Yes, Wizard and the Princess was the second game released by Roberta Williams in the same year as Mystery House, (1980). Unlike Mystery House, Wizard And The Princess introduced color to the game (VERY basic color). It was then re-released in 1982 as Adventure in Serenia. The game had several stupid puzzles, but it suggested what the Sierra games would eventually become. As the game took place in the land of Serenia, the same country in King's Quest V, some fans refer to it as King's Quest 0.

I decided to remake it as a King's Quest game with better graphics, puzzles and plot, mostly to have fun myself and, as I said, to see if I can finish atÃ,  least a medium-short game in AGS.

As a King's Quest fan, I wanted the game to have the same feel as the old 256 color Sierra games. So I'll reuse some of the KQ5 backgrounds, specially for the desert part, but most of the locations will be new.

For example the Village of Serenia, where the wanderer (in this case, King Edward the benevolent) starts his adventure, is a different place from the town seen in KQ5. The village of serenia is located in the middle of the Endless Desert while the Town of Serenia is near the Dark Forest, west from the Endless Desert and east from te Great Mountains where Queen Icebella lives.

I've drawn some maps showing the geography of the land of serenia, based off the King's Quest Companion world maps and the game W&P. Maybe I'll upload them sometime in the near future.

Well, I wish the best of luck to your project.  ;)

Now this I am looking forward to! I was actually just thinking about WatP the other day and how much I wanted to play it again. It's looking good so far, keep up the great work!

Hey!

When I read this post a few days back, I thought to myself "Man, what a beautiful idea!". I played those games back when I was younger, but I never played The Wizard and the Princess, although I believe it comes in the King's Quest collection, which my brother gave me a couple of years ago.

So, I always get excited when I hear of new remakes or related projects (like King's Quest III VGA and The Silver Linen), but I think this one is just amazing because I like a lot the idea of remaking such an old game.

Sierra made remakes, too, and although QFG1 VGA is a great game, I also enjoyed the original one. There was difference between the two, of course, but I stick to the original. But in the case of WatP, the remake will be a really fresh look at the story so many years after the original release.

I think that remaking that kind of game is a great idea. It would be like remaking old adventure games, like Questprobe's The Hulk, Fantastic Four and Spiderman. Or The Sands of Egypt.

I really hope this project goes well. As I said, I haven't played the original, but some things concern me already, and I want to share my thoughts with you:

1) If the young King Edward the Benevolent goes to rescue a princess, should they end up together, like King Graham and Queen Valanice? If so...

2) Some drauma/trauma should happen to them afterwards, since, if I remember correctly, at the beginning of King's Quest I it was said that old King Edward the benevolent was heirless. So...

3) His bride/wife dies afterwards...

4) Their child/children die afterwards...

5) The princess/wife bears no children...

6) The princess/wife cheats on King Edward the Benevolent with some chivalrous knight of Daventry, just like Launcelot and Gwenhyver in the artherian legends.

7) Same as 6), but from that forbidden relationship the princess/queen bears... young Graham, future King of Daventry.

Please, excuse me for my silliness. but I have just made that little exercise to illustrate a point: that beggining from this remake of The Wizard and the Princess, you could make more games related to King's Quest, because I think that many years go by between WatP and KQ1. There could be a story of how King Edward the Benevolent got the treasures that Graham has to recover in KQ1, etc. Maybe you could link the evil wizard from WatP with Manannan and Mordack or something. I hope they include Manannan and all the loose ends of the saga in The Silver Linen.

Best of luck with you amazing project! I'm looking forward to play the game, but take your time to do it and don't rush.

Best regards,

- Pato Abusleme

Looks great but will you have a voice pack for this game. How about also remaking Time zone.

Honestly, snoopy. If you care that much, why don't you make it? There are plenty of skilled people in this community who would be more than happy to help.

I second that. If you need someone to do some voice acting, I do a pretty good job.

You might want to make the main character sprites look more medieval, but besides that it looks great. Thanks for remaking that one seeing as I've never played it.
